Breen?

Does anyone know how breen faces look like?Do they pose a threat to the federation? Is there any other known vessel design except "Breen frigate"?In generally who are these peoples?
I was unable to find much about them and i believe we can only speculate ,but lets give it a try to answer these questions.

Does anyone know how breen faces look like?

Kira and Dukat should - it would appear they removed the helmets of at least two Breen in "Indiscretion", in order to obtain the Breen suits they used for camouflage.

That is, unless they raided the clothes closet in that slave mine and took the suits from there, unused. But they did stun or kill several Breen, and it would be very difficult to imagine them not removing their helmets out of sheer curiosity at some point. They weren't in any sort of a hurry, after all.

Do they pose a threat to the federation?

If allying with the enemies of the UFP, yes, apparently they do. But they were enemies of the Cardassians before the Dominion War, so perhaps the Feds rather liked them (even if they were among the suspects of wrongdoing in "Hero Worship" and ST:GEN). If they are credible enemies of the old Cardassian Union, and the old Cardassian Union was a credible enemy of the UFP, then the Breen Confederacy probably could be a threat to the UFP on its own...

Is there any other known vessel design except "Breen frigate"?

Not on screen. But on screen, we see several different sizes of that ship. And in VOY "Scorpion", we learn that the Breen use "organic-based vessels". Perhaps the type they use starts out small, and then grows?

In generally who are these peoples?

Apparently, folks for whom ways humans would consider evil are pretty routine. We have seen the Breen run a slave mine, practice piracy, be suspected of piracy, and be accused of general treacherousness. And reputedly they have lots of teen pregnancies... See the Memory Alpha article on them.

However, much of that might be sheer naughty propaganda, based on the actions of criminal Breen who only interact with our heroes because the nice Breen society does not tolerate them and casts them out.

Zero Sum Game is a great novel and really can stand alone so you wouldn't be completely lost if you just picked that one up and read.

They go into a lot of detail about the Breen and you specificly get to see what is under that damn helmet!

But the Breen always struck me as an on screen running gag. Kind of like Morn being a chatterbox but never gets a line, you just never see what's under those helmets.

Can someone PM me what the novel says about how the Breen look? Or post it with spoiler tags?

EDIT: Got the PM, very interesting, THANK YOU!

Personally, I don't like what the novels have done to the Breen. Sometimes what you DON'T know about or see makes for a more interesting story or movie.

Best onscreen example of my point would be the Wampa cave in Empire Strikes Back. The original scene shows very little of the creature and it adds tension to the moment. The "Special" Edition puts a guy in white ape suit, and it's ridiculous.

IMO, describing the nature of the Breen is the white ape suit of Star Trek novels.

** Goes back to enjoying A Stitch in Time.

I wonder if you'll say the same of Garak after you're done with that book. ;)

Probably not. It's already had a great impact on me personally, and at nearly halfway through, I'm planning on reading it again after I'm finished.

So far, it's very close to becoming my favorite Trek novel, which says a lot considering I'm very selective about which books I think are good, as I don't hold many in very high regard as it is.

:vulcan:

Were their helmets stolen/inspired from/by Star Wars?
Wearing a Breen suit enabled Princess Leia to enter Jabba the Huts palace, and rescue Han.

:)

Yeah, Princess Leia is so awesome that she crossed the multiversal boundary to beat up a Breen and steal its suit to sneak into the Godfather of Worms' base to rescue her mostly-dead Cuddly Space Pirate boyfriend.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome how they explained the Breen.

The Breen seem to have been a larger threat than suspected, though whether they are capable of a sustained fight against the Federation is not known. They were mentioned as having partly-organic tech as far back as TNG, are rumoured to use cloaking devices in that same story... so their tech is fairly advanced. But they appear to hide a lot of their capability, probably to keep enemies off-guard... they sneak-attack Earth in DS9 and inflict significant damage but end up having their attack force wiped out, indicating they are prepared to sustain heavy casualties (even the Klingons never tried this sort of strike) to inflict psychological damage on their foes. But even in that attack, they kept back the secret of their energy-draining weapon... It was a total surprise to Sisko's fleet at Chin'toka and, as such, when it WAS used it allowed them to decimate a large Starfleet task force in short order.

Nitpicking, as per course:

They were mentioned as having partly-organic tech as far back as TNG, are rumoured to use cloaking devices in that same story
Actually, the organic tech reference only comes from VOY "Scorpion". The second Breen reference episode after TNG "The Loss", namely TNG "Hero Worship", only lists Klingons and Romulans as cloak operators and thus likely perps in an attack of a certain type, to which Data responds that the Breen modus operandi would also match the attack pattern observed. Data doesn't outright say that the Breen have cloaks.

(Curiously, Picard then expresses doubt that the Breen would be the guilty party - citing as evidence that the witness spoke of helmeted boarders with phaser rifles. Later on, we learn that the Breen in fact always wear helmets, so it's a bit odd that Picard would voice out the exact opposite conviction!)

The Breen may be wearing helmets, but they use disruptors instead of phasers (mentioned in Generations).

Did the Breen had any other wars besides the war against the feds?

We do know that the Klingons attempted to conquer the Breen in the past but failed when the fleet they sent disappeared. Apart from that we haven't heard of any major conflicts the Breen have been involved in.
