Breaking Official Announcement: Fourth ‘Star Trek’ Movie A Go At Paramount

Wait a minute. By now in the new timeline, George Kirk would be somewhere in his late fifties or early sixties. I can't imagine they'll age Hemsworth to look 60-ish, so there will have to be some shenanigans that will account for him actually being younger than his son, Jim, by a few years. Hmm.

Jim Kirk will also be more experienced than his father by then, having captained a starship for around five years (assuming they let about two years pass between STB and nuIV).

They could use time-travel! I don't think it's ever been used on Star Trek before?

(More seriously if it is time-travel, I'm going for the Guardian of Forever).

Dude could have been in suspended animation somewhere for a few decades. Worked for that other Chris, Evans.

A shocking franchise first. Paramount officially announces Star Trek 4 before Star Trek Beyond is out and reveals the storyline. Wow, just reading that statement seems like surreal fantasy.

Doesn't look like Doug Jung is involved either. Seems like if they (Paramount) see something in Beyond, they would want to keep the behind-the-scenes team together as much as possible.
Pegg made the writing process for Beyond out to be hell on Earth. I'd say it's more to do with fatigue than anything.

He was only injured when the Kelvin crashed. The Klingons took him, gave him a robotic arm and turned him into the galaxy's most fearsome assassin, The Winter Soldier.

or...its BvsS...George Kirk survives and is told that his son Kirk has delusions of godhood and is trying to use his imperialist mandate to take over the universe...do you bleed Captain Kirk?

RAMA

What if Robau, after getting killed by Nero and becoming more powerful than we could possibly imagine, saved Kirk and they have been traveling the galaxy together ever since?

Maybe it'll be like that New Voyages episode, where Matt Decker flies into the Doomsday Machine and comes out in the 1980's!
I just hope it's not a riff on "Yesterday's Enterprise," with George having to decide to go back to crash the Kelvin. (Apologies, if anyone else made that obvious comparison.)

Edit - @Shalashaska

Mirror universe?

Yesterday's Enterprise with the U.S.S. Kelvin?
Then we better see Robau!

If they start messing with timelines again it's going to get pretty darn confusing. Are they going back to typical Trek linear time travel? Will they create a third universe? Maybe this George Kirk is from the TV series universe and they can cross-over a few characters from the TV show into the movie as well.

Honestly, I hope they play it straight, and however they end up with Kirk meeting his father, it's set firmly and completely in the current timeline.

I don't believe it has been stated that the next movie will be Time Travel, though.

For all we know it could be a "Godfather, Part 2" type of scenario.

Well, time will tell. :D

Sorry.

So very sorry.

It's the giddiness over the good reviews for STB and already knowing they'll be a fourth movie.

Again, sorry.

Time travel doesn't seem very likely.

Cue a couple hundred "worldofoddballs"-type clickbait articles that torture Beyond's plot to equate it with The Search For Spock, and then insist that going true-to-pattern the fourth reboot movie must be about time travel ala The Voyage Home.

Maybe Beyond will have a post-credits scene where we find out George Kirk is being held prisoner by Thanos.
