Breaking Bad - Season 4

Over at the AV Club (where he's breaking down the season, episode by episode), Vince Gilligan said that the writers haven't developed anything more about Gus' background than what's been established on-screen. He speculates that it must have something to do with the Pinochet government, but unless a reason comes up to elaborate upon that on screen, he's comfortable leaving it a little mysterious.

Not gonna link them? It's an awesome set of interviews. :D

Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four

Things I expect to happen in Season 5

  • Walt and Jesse cook meth again
  • Fallout from Gus's downfall bite Walt and Jesse in the ass and maybe gives at least Jesse reason cook meth again as means to survive the fallout. Walt will cook meth again because he has grown too addicted to that life to give it all up.
  • Skylar finding out about Ted's death or mentally damaged state and its impact on her which would scare her with the dark reality of the life she has chosen to be a part of on top of Walt's violent means of protecting the family in "Face Off" either temporarily before hardening herself into what needs to be done for the safety of her family or to the point of her having growing doubts about being Walt's accomplice while feeling trapped by her role in the money laundering operation
  • Mike returns which leave Jesse and Walt with the choice between killing him to save themselves and making him a part of their operation. I think Jesse will fight for the latter because of the bond he developed with Mike in Season 4.
  • Hank comes across something that makes him think Gus wasn't the Heisenberg he has been chasing after and maybe he finds something that doesn't out-right reveal Walt as Heisenberg in the beginning but reveals something that will eventually lead him down that road like finding out that Walt and Jesse has been spending time together and trying to figure out the purpose behind their meetings.
  • When Hank does find out that Walt is Heisenberg, he will do everything in his power to bring him down while keeping his knowledge of Walt's criminal identity a secret from him and the rest of the family so Walt won't know what he is up to. Once Walt knows, it will be a dangerous cat-and-mouse game between them. Walt may consider the idea of killing Hank to save himself which would be ironic considering that he tried to stop Gus from doing the same thing.
  • Walt Jr. finds out his father's secret which would lead to some serious drama between him and his parents. I also fear something bad will happen to Walt Jr. like him getting addicted to meth or getting killed off.
  • Jesse will become curious about why Brock got poisoned by the lily of the valley and when he finds out from Brock and Brock's mother that he never came in contact with it, his curiosity will grow. Walt wll try to keep the trail from going back to him and may pin it on someone else, maybe someone from Jesse's past that Jesse had a beef with.
  • At some point, Walt and Jesse's partnership will begin its ulimate downfall when Jesse either finds out about Walt's true role in Brock's poisoning, Jane's death, or both. After that, I can see Jesse wanting revenge aganist Walt by working possibly with Mike to either bring Walt to prison so he'll rot and his crimes will be exposed to all which would be Walt's worse cares scenario or kill Walt in a way that won't trace back to him.
  • Walt will be surrouded by enemies and very few, if any, allies.
  • Saul may piece together Walt's role in Brock's poisoning which may give him qualms about the man he is working for. But Walt will blackmail Saul from telling Jesse since Saul was the one who helped Walt without knowing Walt's true plan.
  • But in the end, Walt won't suffer a fate many would expect. He won't be killed by Jesse or sent to prison for the rest of his life. I imagine this scenario of Marie shooting Walt in the driveway of his family home out of revenge for the crap Hank has been through. That could be happen but however Walt dies, it will be the scenario and type of death people will least expect which would be a thing we expect from Vince Gilligan.

I just hope Badger and Skinny Pete come back next season. They had one appearance in season four. :(

And thanks for posting the links that I was too lazy to, Idran. A great set of interviews with Vince Gilligan (the AV Club also has several other interviews with the cast that were posted around the time of episode 12).

Gus doesn't like or trust Jesse. Like Walt, he despises Jesse. But unlike Walt, he doesn't indulge his petty desires to humiliate or abuse people until its safe, as in his game in taunting Hector.

Heh, I just yesterady finally finished watching the season, so I've been avoiding this thread - this comment is amusing in hindsight. ;)

I know this is not going to happen, but I wish Walt would just die of cancer without anyone knowing what he's been up to. I think it would be cool if Walt and Jesse just simply made whatever money they need and cleaned up, then walk away. What I'm hoping is Walt dies(somehow) and Jesse walks away clean. Hank will likely find out about Walt, but it could be a huge embarrassment that Walt has been cooking underneath Hank's nose. This may make Hank hesitant to bust Walt, but ultimately if he does bust Walt, it will be the bust of the century. At this point, anything can happen though, but it will definitely end with Walt dead.

:rommie:

That is the drawback of megathreads. Gotta be careful what you say because it will be used against you.

I could live with that despite my wanting to see Hank bust Walt. In fact, Walt and Jesse already got away with it and walked away, but knowing Walt, he'll start playing with fire again.

I hadn't thought about what would happen to Jesse if Walt gets busted because at this stage, it does seem like Jesse needs to get away clean. For now, I'm still going to maintain my position that Jesse will kill Walt, but how that fits in with him getting away while Walt faces justice, I'm not sure.

I think it's very likely that Jesse will kill Walt. From what we have seen and others have pointed out, Jesse is breaking good, so it really could turn out that Jesse will want this all to end. In order to do that, he will have to kill Walt and possibly make a deal with Hank.
