"Bread and Circuses" Remastered Questions

Just watched "Bread and Circuses" remastered version today on free-to-air TV and I have some questions

1. There was a little ship buzzing about the Enterprise on some of the remastered CGI for about 5 seconds at the very beginning of the episode. It was red and white. What was it supposed to be? The Beagle was supposed to be destroyed. I thought the Enterprise was pretty far out in space and that's why the remains of the Beagle had not been discovered earlier.

2. Maybe I imagined this but I'm pretty sure in the scene where the Proconsul asks (rhetorically) Kirk what he wants to happen to McCoy and Spock after Spock saves McCoy in the arena that one of the Proconsul's lines was missing. The bit where he said "An easy death? Then you'd gladly accept whatever happens to you.". Has anyone else noticed this on TV?

3. Why does the Proconsul think Kirk will beam any of his crew down. What possible motivation would Kirk have? I can't even figure out why Merrick bought his crew down or why the Proconsul wanted them down there in the first place.

#2. That wouldn't be surprising. TOS gets chopped up for over-the-air broadcast. Commercial television has more commercials now than when TOS aired, so actual content of an hour-long program is about 40-something minutes as opposed to 50-something minutes as it was in those days.

The Proconsul wanted Merrick's crew down on planet 892 IV so that they wouldn't be able to reveal the existence of his world or it's lifestyle to the outside galaxy! Merrick did what he was told due to fear for his own life or the prizes that the Roman leader offered him like a place in his government and riches and women like Drusilla I'd have said!

Just watched the beginning again on DVD and while I thought originally the red and white ship moving was moving it was obviously the Enterprise (and the Beagle was just drifting). So my bad.

I thought the Proconsul knew that the Federation wasn't going to do squat about anything that was happening on that planet because of the Prime Directive so why did he want the Enterprise's crew to beam down?

I was watching "Spock's Brain" today and they cut a scene out of that too. How annoying.

I wonder if a beagle was chosen to play Porthos in ENT as a reference to the HMS Beagle. I'm probably overthinking it. They probably wanted a small, neat, portable dog to fit into the starship setting.

I thought the Proconsul knew that the Federation wasn't going to do squat about anything that was happening on that planet because of the Prime Directive so why did he want the Enterprise's crew to beam down?

To make sure that no one interferes? If no one reports back, then there's no chance of influence that could change his society.

I just looked it up, and apparently the ships named HMS Beagle were originally named after the dog breed. Apparently the Golden Hind did not get its name from where I first thought, however.
