Brands that were once popular....

When I was a kid I loved going to Ames. Did anyone have an Ames? I am surprised Kmart is still around. :rommie:

My all time favorite place to shop was Two Guys, we had them around New Jersey growing up. The Two Guys in Wayne NJ was awesome, there was a guy selling Sabrett hot dogs from a cart in the entry way. The store was huge and had everything, including a lunch counter where you could get soda made by a soda jerk. They also had skee-ball and other arcade games.

Starter sports apparel was the cool thing I remember in the 80s/90s. Hats, jackets, etc. I don't even know if the brand exists anymore.

What are popular restaurants now? I didn't know Hard Rock was so popular back in the day (Actually, I think a better example would be Planet Hollywood) but I do know there are still some around. I guess when I think popular resturants, fast food like In n Out come to mind, and then you have your various chains like Dennys.

My first actual car which I never drove legally was a Pontiac and I used it as a down payment on a Mazda. No more Pontiac cars.

Not exactly.

That looks pretty damned close to owning fifty percent of the market so I don't see how that invalidates what I said.

Canon has roughly 40 percent market share with Nikon holding 34 percent according to recent earnings. That's hardly Nikon as a "distant second."

Indeed. Nikon is still very popular, and a strong contender against Canon.

Pond's Cold Cream: It still exists, but does anyone under age 90 use it?

Me! I recently started using their cold cream cleanser. The first time I used it, I was like oh gosh, I'm my mom. I have all these memories of her smelling like Ponds when I was younger. I really like it though, and it does an amazing job of removing makeup.

And for good reason. Nikon makes really excellent cameras (and lenses) - I say as someone who owns two Canon DSLR bodies and a half-dozen Canon lenses.

When I lived near St. Louis in the 1960s, our high school senior pictures were done by the Vincent Price Portrait Studios. Yes, that Vincent Price, who was originally from St. Louis, I think he either owned the studio or licensed his name to it.

Also Vuarnet. Though I don't know if it was a popular brand. Or because I'm French and was around a lot of skiers.

I don't believe Admiral, Zenith or Philco exist anymore.

Admiral appliances are sold at Home Depot, Zenith exists as one of LG's brands and both Electrolux and Philips sell some Philco-branded consumer electronics.

Yep, and AOC is the Admiral Overseas Corporation. My old HDTV was an AOC, and when I found that out, I thought it was pretty cool.

It may have been mentioned, as I haven't read the whole thread yet, but Commodore. I used to have a Commodore 64, learned how to type and how to program in BASIC. Had a pamphlet for Quantum-Link/Q-Link Online, which of course later became AOL.
