BRAINSTORM: Fan Films I'd like to see (as I have no resources!)

This post may seem a bit random to some but I thought I'd share a brainstorm of some fan film ideas. I'm a guy who likes to share ideas if I have them!!

21st Century

Assignment: Earth [series]
Why? The first Trek spin off concieved; set in the 60s with Gary Seven and co. I am surprised this has not actually been done! Of course John Byrne did this as an IDW spin off.

The Eugenics Wars [mini/movie]
Why? A major lost chapter - period drama with Khan, the Augments, Gary Seven, Flint and more. The Novels featured practically every 20th Century character from TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY, it would be fun to do what is now a period drama tying our world into Star Trek's!

23rd Century

Ultimate Star Trek [film?]
Why? It would be fun to try a different type of Trek reboot. Kitk, Spock and McCoy would still be the focus, Gabe Koerners Enterprise and Dennis Bailey's TOS uniforms would be used. Picard, Sisko, DS9 etc would not be 100 years in the future so team ups can occur. Sulu I like the idea of being an old veteran and mentor to young Chekov. Aesthetically more like Star Trek TNG. Basically 'what if TOS was remade in the 90s?'

Continues/Farragut crossover [film]
What's been mooted over at Farragut is going into the Movie era, so if you wanted to go there that would be a cool opportunity for a full crossover (ie not a cameo!) an extra feature film set after Trek 1, 2 (but no Spock), 4/5 (Enterprise-A). Vic suits movie Kirk well!

24th Century

Starfleet Marine Corps [series]
Exploring the fabled but sometimes talked about Corps - are they even canon? I hear the idea being talked about in a few laces, of course we have MACOs in the 22/23rd Century.

The New Mission [series]
Basically Continues/Phase II for TNG; Picard and the 'dream team' on the Enterprise-E after Nemesis. Starring Giles Aston, uniting characters from all series:
Worf is XO; Geordi is Engineer; Crusher is Doctor; 7 of 9 is Science; Dax is Counselor; Nog is Conn; Tuvok is tactical. Later Riker & Troi come home when Picard retires. I enjoyed Aston in Intrepid, it would be cool to see him leadd the crew of the Enterprise.

Later Voyages [trilogy??]
Captain Kirk returns to life and active service on the Enterprise-A. With Spock, Scotty and Holo-McCoy. Admiral Chekov cameos. Picard and others appear; following 'Echoes of Destiny', we move towards the 09 movie, introducing Nero and featuring the destruction of Romulus. Based on the Bring Back Kirk trailer

Instead of wanting others to film your ideas, you should do it yourself. Start small, with a cellphone or a digital camera, hook up with some locals, and start saving time and money. Every fan production started small with little to no budget, including Phase II and Continues. You can do the same.

Agreed, with the only objection that Continues did not start small - a lot of them have learned at P2 and/or are pros and started of running and with a 130K Kickstarter.

The only thing I have to say is that they shouldn't use Gabe's Enterprise. I never really cared for the design because it looked too militaristic and gives a warship vibe instead of peaceful exploration.

I do have a MACOs based Star Trek Fan Film (teenagers, zero budget) under "Really Really Bad Stuff" http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/209.html see (C) Star Trek: Starfleet Marines ... they are out trying to rescue Superman. Also, out of Oklahoma City Starship Courageous is also about MACOS, or will be if they produce it. It's listed as (A0) (two-letters starting with A indicate very slow progress or short term hold) under http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/210.html .

It's interesting that I have two groups that have tackled or are doing the story of World War III but none doing the Eugenics Wars.

An update... Starship Courageous just updated their name to Starship Constellation... and now Defiance...

Indeed, and it showed. In fact, Continues learned from the mistakes of P2 and others had made over the years to get to this point.

One I have in mind is something I thought would be cool to do, but I have to line up a cast, costumes and work out a set (not to mention visuals!)

But, the idea was to do the Trek stories with the set to look like the early Gold Key comics. Kind of put that 1950's spaceship/Navy ship look to the sets, Starfleet unis with the khaki backpacks, stuff like that.

At some point I have to contact some of the historical ships within an hour or two drive from me and find out about filming in some rooms there to get the look.

That sounds like a nice approach, but do you have a good story/script? You can have all the cool trappings and bells and whistles but still wind up with a dud of a film if you don't have a decent story to tell.

Probably the best place for anyone to start is with words (fan-fiction). There are no budgetary or logistical limits to do that.

I do have a couple stories in mind, right now it's a matter of thinking them through a bit further to see how they'll work.

My main goal is to not fall into the trap a lot of the Gold Key comics fell into with the monsters and all.

Writing a story as fan fiction is also a way to go, but part of the Gold Key style was in their whacked out sets and all. There was a visual impact to it as well.

I guess I could write them out and use terminology they had in the comics to try and convey the feel of them.
