Brains Over Bullets: A Sons of Anarchy Review Thread

I was a Sons of Anarchy virgin up until about 3 hours ago. I've now successfully watched the first three episodes via Netflix - and I'm hooked. Where has SAMCRO been all my life? Sons of Anarchy expertly balances criminal activity and family life. The acting is all top notch. Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, and Charlie Hunnam are all really compelling to watch every time they are on the screen. Also, they couldn't have found a "douchebaggier" guy than Taylor Sheridan to play Deputy Hale.

I was really particularly impressed with how well made the pilot was. Most shows have average or just slightly above average pilots, but this one really started off firing all cylinders. All the characters were easily distinguishable and it was very easy to follow the story - and left me begging for more at the end.

The second episode didn't really have a clear theme, but was more of an extension of the pilot in my opinion. I still really enjoyed it though, I don't want to be spoiled, but I'm guessing Gemma had something to do with her first husband's death. That whole thing is kind of shady.

Fun Town was a great episode. It deals with some touchy subject matter (the rape of a 13-year-old girl), but unlike Law & Order: SVU, there was some real street justice done, and if you ask me, the guy deserved a lot worse than simply having his clown balls cut off.

Anyway... off to watch episode four. I doubt I'm going to get any sleep tonight or tomorrow night!

Welcome to the club, it is a favorite of mine. I expect I'll go back over the seasons when summer comes. The characters all go through some great arcs- long and short- also it has one of my favorite 'love to hate them' law enforcement folks in FBI agent Stahl. Ally Walker is fantastic in the role. Katey Segal is also wonderful, she's just fierce in so many episodes. One of my favorite scenes is in the third season. She has no limits when it comes to family and the club.

The acting and craftsmanship of the episodes (the way they keep multiple complex threads going, and tie them all up in the end) are very impressive. I'm annoyed that the series continues to be ignored at Emmy time, especially Katey Sagal who should have at least one trophy by now.

Have you gotten to the episodes that introduce Agent Stahl (Ally Walker)? She's something else! :rommie:

Yes. I watched four more episodes last night. Just excellent stuff. And it's very entertaining without being overtly vulgar like it probably would have been on HBO or Showtime.

After I get off work tomorrow I'm probably going to lay up in bed, stuff my face with BBQ and watch another several episode. I've got some decent reviews of episodes coming when I've got some more time.

It's the subtle touches that really highlight Sutter's writing. The family tomb where Jax is sleeping is 'Patmos' I believe, which is where John gets/writes the 'Book of Revelation'. The show is one of the few worth repeat viewings on TV these days.

I have seen all episodes and all seasons and I have been hooked since it first came on. There season ending are epic and make me wait till I can't wait till more. I don't know when the 4th season comes back(I can't wait), I think october like usual. But everytime I see that symbol, when they first start to show previews of the new season, my heart races and I can't wait. Man I love this show and their cliff hangers are just so teasing.
