I was a Sons of Anarchy virgin up until about 3 hours ago. I've now successfully watched the first three episodes via Netflix - and I'm hooked. Where has SAMCRO been all my life? Sons of Anarchy expertly balances criminal activity and family life. The acting is all top notch. Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, and Charlie Hunnam are all really compelling to watch every time they are on the screen. Also, they couldn't have found a "douchebaggier" guy than Taylor Sheridan to play Deputy Hale.
I was really particularly impressed with how well made the pilot was. Most shows have average or just slightly above average pilots, but this one really started off firing all cylinders. All the characters were easily distinguishable and it was very easy to follow the story - and left me begging for more at the end.
The second episode didn't really have a clear theme, but was more of an extension of the pilot in my opinion. I still really enjoyed it though, I don't want to be spoiled, but I'm guessing Gemma had something to do with her first husband's death. That whole thing is kind of shady.
Fun Town was a great episode. It deals with some touchy subject matter (the rape of a 13-year-old girl), but unlike Law & Order: SVU, there was some real street justice done, and if you ask me, the guy deserved a lot worse than simply having his clown balls cut off.
Anyway... off to watch episode four. I doubt I'm going to get any sleep tonight or tomorrow night!
