Braindead is confused as to who Braindead is.

Pretty movie actress slumming it in TV, political novice on the Hill, shows up the same day as a covert alien invasion comparable to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and will eventually have to roll her sleeves up to fight Aliens (who for all appearances are Senators and Congresspeople.) like Ripley with a flame thrower and semtex.

I like it, but most of the actors think they're in a hard core intense Science Fiction Thriller, but then months later someone in the production team, or notes from the network, has framed/cut the show to be a Science Fiction Comedy, which has lead to a very bizarre final product.

Science Fiction Political Horror Comedy... In episode 2, the recap was sung like folk music.

So confused.

First CBS prime-time program I have watched in years. (eta scratch that, forgot about Under the Dome) Like UTD it is weird but I am loving all the political drama tucked in around an alien invasion. It is different.

The "previously on Brain Deads" are amazing!

Seriously, give it a chance. :)

Maybe you'll get lucky, and Braindead'll be cancelled in 3 weeks, so it won't be such a commitment.

This show is wild. The first episode had some tonal issues, but now it's downright weird and goofy and I love it. The actors are turning in great performances, the direction is suitably wonky (some of the tight focus shots are amazing), the scripts are sardonically funny.

I have absolutely no idea where this series is going. I was thinking it could get all Evil Dead, and we'd see Mary Elizabeth Winstead with a chainsaw going after the head bug, but it'll probably be subtler than that.

"That's all the time I have because this episode is too long"

The previously on videos are better than most TV shows.

I've been enjoying the show-- it's got a great cast and characters, and the scripts are pretty funny-- but I don't understand the purpose of the Brain Bugs. The politicians are all insane extremists until their brains are eaten by bugs-- then they are insane extremists. Is that the message? That being taken over by Alien Brain Bugs would make no difference?

This might be stupid.

But what if there are two factions of Aliens hiding in plain sight?

Who have been fighting each other across the universe, and their epic 4 million year long war has been bought to Earth and... No wait, that's the plot to Transformers.

:)

Hmm. I wonder if the creators have read Frederic Brown's "Come And Go Mad."

I'm falling for this show hard, it's weird, political satire, has exploding heads and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
I doubt it will survive long but for now I'm enjoying the ride.

Everybody will be offended at how their side is being portrayed and angry that the opposition isn't being exposed as the horrible villains they truly are. :rommie:

Is anyone else still watching BrainDead?

I'm finding it quite goofy fun. It's settled into a rhythm -- there's some alien-induced plot that Luke and/or Laurel has to deal with in that episode, with the larger meta-plot happening alongside -- and I'm really enjoying it.

I can't decide quite how this is going to end. (And, I imagine there's a definitive ending in mind for this.) I can't decide if it's going to be a small-scale ending -- the bugs infect Gareth, and Laurel has to pull him back with love -- or a big-scale ending -- it's a Mars Attacks!-like ending that kills all of the bugs in one fell swoop.

^^ I love that. Best thing the Cars ever did. :D

I'm still watching the show, and I like it. It's still pretty goofy, but it's gotten pretty intense a few times, like when Laurel was kidnapped and almost tortured-- and the fact that her father has been taken over by the bugs. I'm wondering if they will have a season ending along the lines of Mr. Robot, where there's a major game changer, but life goes on pretty much as usual for most people. What's kind of weird is that they're not referencing the election in any way-- it doesn't seem to be an election year in the BrainDeadverse.

Hillary and Trump have been on TVs that people inside the series are watching.

Each branch of the US Government, Legislative, Judicial and Executive think that they are awesome, and the other two are shit.

Capitol Hill is more worried about who the new VP is, as that person is the President of the Senate, with very little power, unless shit gets real and down to the wire, which happens more often than anyone is comfortable with.

Last night...

I was not expecting an episode that revolved around slut-shaming. (Laurel was in the right. Gareth was an ass.) Nor was I expecting Red to straight up shoot a guy; I feel like that crossed all sorts of lines, and not just because Red started eating the gray matter.

I had worked out the leaker pretty early on. I thought there was a chance that the leaker was the infected Father Healy, as a move to eliminate Laurel as a threat to the Bugs plans.

I have no idea what's happening in 38 days.

Man, that was one of the funniest and most disturbing things I've ever seen. :rommie: Was that the real Michael Moore or did they find some unfortunate lookalike. I sympathize with Gareth on that one. Michael Moore really is the Left-Wing equivalent of Anne Coulter. :rommie:

And, yeah, shooting the prosecutor in the head and eating his brain was pretty extreme. I think the intern is the weak link in that cover up. And I wonder if Red will start to experience the prosecutor's memories or something.

According to Mary Elizabeth Winstead on Twitter, that was the real Michael Moore.

I think he will. The whole "two brains are better than one" suggested to me that Red would get something out of Boch's brains.

That's got to be the funniest thing on TV this year. :rommie:

So either Boch will start influencing Red, or the bugs will realize they can gain knowledge from eating brains and start killing people to eat their brains.

During the brief scenes with M Moore, I could swear a faintly veiled version of fanfare for TOS was quietly playing.

Are you sure Winstead wasn't just teasing about it really being Michael Moore? "He" looked more like a large woman to me when "he" turned to look at the camera during the first nightmare flashback.
