Bradley Wiggins & the President of France @ the Tour de France

I am watching NBC's Olympic coverage right now and they are showing cycling. They were talking about Brit Bradley Wiggins and how he recently won the Tour de France. Then they said something about him doing something to offend the President of France and the sponsors after the race, but I didn't catch what they were talking about. I think he was on the podium when he did whatever offended everyone. My question is this, what did he do or say to offend people???

He made a few populist jokes, that's all. Stood up on the podium and said he was about the draw the raffle, acknowledged the crowd and said he'd like to buy them all a drink and was generally considered to be "disrespectful" to the president who expected him to be deferential and make a fuss about meeting him.

It was typical Brit humour - ignoring the Brass and making the crowd laugh. That really is all he did.

And he's just won a gold medal, so we don't really care. We'll take Calais back if they make too much fuss.

The Beeb showed him running the raffle again this morning, in front of millions on the Champs Elysées. It never gets tired. Wiggins speaks fluent French so he conducted most of his comments in French and with decorum.

BTW he just got gold in the time trial, beating the second fastest by 42 seconds. He had his 'game face' on coming round the bend to the finish. It's an amazing sight.

I didn't watch, this Tour was particularly boring.

Keep on dreaming, rosbif ;)

Perhaps the BBC presenters will stop frantically gibbering and settle down now.
