Boycott Wolverine to help Trek?

I guess it doesn't matter how many bad reviews this movie got and it really did get "clawed up" *groan hiss* in every paper/review I've seen...yet it goes on to have a blockbuster weekend....so this brings me to the conclusion that the US market doesn't really care about story...they just want the bells and whistles...content is secondary....very sad indeed.
I think it's again a situation where people will go see a movie if they really want to. I can't speak for everyone else, but I read reviews more for entertainment value than to help me decide about movies... if i had a dollar for everytime I've agreed with a major reviewer, I would have about $5. So just because folks don't listen to newspaper reviews doesn't mean that they want nothing more than bells and whistles.

Yeah I agree, no matter how many bad reviews people don't care. I don't always agree w/ reviews either but I do use it as a barometer.... I like to watch mentally stimulating movies..... I don't think it takes very much for an American audience to be "entertained".....I'm not meaning that in a bad way either.

I saw Wolverine and enjoyed it. Some movies are worth seeing on the big screen, with the blockbuster effects and such. A nuclear power plant chimney blowing up on big screen is different than the 42" plasma at home.

Support what you like. No need to boycott. Plus, Hugh's hunky butt is bigger on a cinema screen.

Anyone not seeing Wolverine to help Trek look better?

I thought about doing that but I think I really want to see Wolverine too. :vulcan:

Please talk me out of seeing Wolverine or convince me seeing both is the right thing to do.

If you want to see wolverine, why don't you go watch wolverine? How is you not going to wolverine help star trek? Unless you only plan to see one movie?

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what this manufactured rivalry is all about. One won't affect the other, IMO. If people are only X Men fans, they'll only see one movie. If they're Sci-Fi/comic/Fantasy folks, they'll be sure to see both.

To me, Wolverine looked lousy, and I don't want to see it in a theatre. But, if it had looked good to me, I'd have gone to see it (probably after Star Trek).

As expected, Wolverine was overestimated by $2 million. Not a big difference, but the final OW total was $85.1 million

Another bad marketing decision by Paramont.

They should have schedulaed for June when no big movies will be shown and Trek could have made 120 million in 3 days.

This bodes badly for Trek as there will be no money left for Trek if all the money has been spent on Wovervine.

Remember there is only a finite amount of money for movies. If the lions share has already been gobbled by Wolvervine then very little will be left for Trek.

Get ready to weep.
:guffaw:
I got some good news and bad news... good news is that I agree with you about there only being a finite amount of money. The bad news is that I doubt that 87million represents most of that money. If Star Trek does poorly (which, based on the buzz, I kinda doubt), it won't be because everyone and their dog went to Wolverine and now they can't afford anything else. Movies have been getting more expensive over the years, but so long as people resisted getting a soda and popcorn this past weekend, Wolverine won't have cleaned them out. If people really want to go to a movie, they will probably make it happen.

week 1 1ST OF MAY:- A charity asks you for $20 dollars which you give gladly.

week 2 8TH OF MAY:-Another charity asks you for another $20 but you have not been paid yet so you will not be willing to give the second charity another $20 as you have given it to the first charity and there are no groceries in the freezer, your dogs and kids are hungary.

Result:- First charity collects more money then second charity.

Is it too late to postpone Trek to June now?

J.J. Abrams said on Howard Stern's radio show yesterday that he would be happy if "Star Trek" made at least $50 million opening weekend and would "kill himself" if it made less than $30 million. Howard, who had seen a preview of the film the day before, predicted it would gross $79 million in the opening weekend.

That may or may not be accurate in the case of charities, but you know what happens for movies? Those people who somehow manage to be that far gone will just wait until the get paid and *gasp* see the movie during any other part of the 3-4 months it's in theaters!!! Movies don't need to make most of their money opening weekend to be a success. If they have good long-term income, that is just as effective.

Wolverine is so bad that it won't even compete with Trek. The movie that may give Trek fits is Terminator 4

Here's the deal: if you can only afford to see one of the movies, you're going to want to get the most bang for your buck so you're going to pick the one that interests you most and go see it. Unlike charities you aren't going to be surprised about the second movie asking for your money, if you haven't seen an ad for Trek yet you must be living in a cave.
