Boxing Day sales

So, what do y'all have planned for tomorrow?

I got about $50 in gift cards to Indigo Books, so I'm going to hit there tomorrow; and I'll probably go to Future Shop to look at DVD/Blu-Ray.

Even after accounting for the time difference, shouldn't your Boxing Day sales have started yesterday?

I didn't hit the shops; don't really need anything. Overall though, retailers had a pretty good day I hear. Sales up over 30% apparently. There's a small sales tax rise here at the start of January, which I suspect is pushing up sales of big ticket electricals/whitegoods in the sales.

/\ It's possible that PEI stores aren't allowed to open on Sundays, so they may have held off their sales until today (27th).

Here, hours are normally restricted to 12-6, but there was an exemption passed this year so most stores opened at 6 or 7am.

I wandered over to Future Shop, Best Buy, and the nearest mall, but didn't find anything worth buying.

I don't have any money or gift cards to spend. Even if I did have I hate shopping in a crowd so I tend to avoid sales.

I generally avoid buying stuff on Boxing Day sales. But even today (two days after Boxing Day), there are still many bargains around. Brought a few DVDs today.

I'm not getting together with my parents to exchange gifts until Wednesday, and I'm not going to be seeing ChrinFinity to exchange gifts until next Monday, so I don't yet have any gift cards to spend (my parents usually give me a couple, for Future Shop/Best Buy and Indigo, hence the word "yet" :D).

So I spent Sunday doing my actual Christmas shopping (since my work schedule prior to Christmas kept me from doing it then) and most of today looking for one item to complement something that I bought on Sunday (and failing miserably).

I did treat myself to Nikki Stafford's "Finding Lost: Season 6" and a box of Godiva chocolates, though. :)

You couldn't pay me to face the crowds we're getting right now. It's a crazy feeding frenzy! Every year I've been, the clothes have usually been dragged all over the floors several times, with all the accompanying dust and fluff, and the queues to pay were out of the door. If anyone is able to salvage anything decent out of that mess, I salute them!

When I was a young teenaged mum-to-be, many a year ago, I went to a K-mart sale because they had nappies (diapers) on special. By nappies I mean cloth nappies not the disposable ones that most parents use today.

My mother-in-law told me to arrive before the doors opened. Being quite naive when it came to the art of shopping I was very surprised to see so many people, mainly women, waiting in a crowd at the doors. I stood back a bit from them as I was about 8 months pregnant and didn't want to be in crowd.

When the doors opened the crowd surged in. I followed at a safe distance. Once in the store I was shocked to see two women arguing over tea towels. One woman had them in her hands and the other woman was trying the pull them off her.

I got my nappies, they wasn't a crowd around them, and I got out pretty quickly before there was much of a line at the checkouts.

This was the one and only sale I ever arrived at before the doors opened.

In Sudbury, the stores aren't open on Boxing Day. Instead, the stores take advantage of Boxing Week. Instead, on the 26th we celebrate my Dad's birthday. Lately though, the company he's been working for (a tech support company) has had him work on Christmas Day and the following day, so we're waiting until New Year's to do anything.

I went to the sales today. It was okay - I was just casually shopping though. Not a fan of GETTING THE ONE ITEM THAT HAS TO BE BOUGHT TODAY. No great bargains mind.
