BOSTON ON TOP OF THE WORLD!!!

They've been one of the better teams in MLS for a good deal of time, now, and been in the last couple MLS Cups. Maybe if they finally win one people will actually start paying attention.

It's soccer, once again, Americans don't give a fuck about soccer. They can fly to the moon and play soccer and America still wouldn't give a damn. They can be the best team on the planet and no one will ever care. Why? Because it's soccer.

Exactly.:borg:

No one being the entire world other than the U.S., of course.
Silly Borgminister, the U.S. is the only country that matters. ;)

Bigdaddy was clearly talking about American sports fans, as indicated in the two sentences prior to the quoted one, two sentences that the two of you oh-so-conveniently ignored. Way to take something out of context in a labored attempt to do a little unwarranted USA bashing.

Hey, it's my country, and I'll bash it if I want to. :p Loosen up, Uncle Sam.

You live in London? Is there anyone else there that even knows of the sport? ;)

At some random pub in London, I met a guy who said, if he were to visit America, the place he'd love to go to is Boston to see a Celtics game (I think it was more for the atmosphere than any actual love for the Celtics, but who knows?). When I heard it, I cringed, though, since I'm a Sixers fan (had I ran into him a week later, I would have said it would be similar to a person going to a Hotspurs fan and telling him that he'd love to see an Arsenal game, but I didn't know enough about football then to say anything when I met him).

Anyway, the Celtics are one of the greatest teams of all time. This team doesn't compare to Larry Bird's teams and definitely does not compare to the teams of Bill Russell (not even close), but it's good for the NBA when the Celtics are good (even if it pains me personally). I just wish the 76ers were good as well.

Bash your country all you want if that's what floats your boat. I just think you guys were being unfair to Bigdaddy.

I think there are plenty of people in this country who do care about soccer at least events like the world cup. The last final received a 16 point rating on ABC which is more than good.

Now MLS is another matter. It has a slowly growing fanbase. The quality of their play is not that bad in terms of excitement but is really poor in terms of tactical awareness and technique compared to the teams in top European leagues.

Thank you, I was just about to say that.

People here seem to read half of what I say, then remember me for that half instead of the whole thing. Most of those people are Stargate fans through. :)

Bash America all you want, just read what I say people! That's all I ask. I don't care if you even bash me as long as you read what I say. :P

And I agree with America giving a slight damn about the World Cup, they only happen every 4 years and it is the only truly worldwide sporting event, still MLS is a joke and will be a joke until the end of time (That will happen in 2012). ;)

And I haven't given a damn about basketball since Larry Bird went bye-bye, then he was a coach for three years and that was nice. I only care because I H-A-T-E The Lakers, they are like the Yankees of basketball. I do find it funny that someone last night was called for traveling, I didn't think they did that anymore.

No one (in America) will ever care. I got that. No one (in the rest of the world) cares what America thinks, though, with respect to football, that is.

Congratulations, Boston! It was cool to see the elation from the Celtics (especially Kevin Garnett) and their fans.:bolian:

I can be more wholehearted in my congratulations to Boston in basketball than in other sports because Pittsburgh doesn't have an NBA team. ;)

One of these days, I'll have to try and learn not to take the anti-MLS stuff as personally as I do...

...but then, I have this annoying habit of taking negative comments made about anything that I care about personally (which is made worse by the similarly-annoying habit I have of being drawn to things that always seem to be in a minority, or a minority of a minority, or even a minority of a minority of a minority...)

Maybe it's just a less-than-subtle piece of evidence that I'm not quite as self-assured an individual as I would like to be?

Oh, well.
