Borg Weapons

they use cutting beams that slice up hulls, pulses that drain shields, and other stuff I'm not remembering.

They're powerful because they operate as a single mind with a single purpose and because they have the ability to adapt quickly and easily.

Plus they look cool and have a great catchphrase.

Y'know, technically, the Borg should be able to use every single weapon they've ever assimilated.

At once.

It'd be like watching 50 fireworks displays superimposed over each other. Whoever isn't destroyed in the attack dies of an epileptic fit.

well ^^^ they'd have to outfit their ships with every weapon they had assimilated to do that. that of course would be pointless.

Whatever is most useful for the plot of that episode...
The Borg's firepower was wildly erratic - especially in the Voyager era.

Who could forget the Borg tactical cube that Voyager manages to hold its own against.
Just awful, I hated "Unimatrix Zero", what a load of badly written trash.

Yeah, it makes no sense whatsoever that with a former Borg drone on board, they could upgrade their weapons' and defensive systems:rommie:

Oh yeah, and there was that episode where the 29th century Borg drone upgraded the ship too....

the Borg tactical cube

More exactly, a Class 4 tactical vessel. It shouldn't be a surprise that our heroes can pwn a fourth-rate combatant...

Considering what we've seen of the Borg, it doesn't make sense that they could have upgraded the ship THAT much in my opinion.

Let's see:
Cutting beams.
Tractor beams.
Shield draining bolts.
Warp field collapsing bolts.
Various energy weapons.
Magneto-Metric guided charges.
Torpedoes.

Plus...

Nanoprobes.
Lies.
Surprise.
Fear.
A fanatical devotion to the Collective ideal.

That was Worf's stock answer to everything. If you're staring down the barrel of a gun Worf will tell you that the shooter lacking honour and courage is your greatest advantage.

The Borg are rampaging through Federation space with a view to assimilating Earth and you're looking for options, and the Klingon tells you that them having neither honour nor courage is your greatest advantage. The Borg are without honour. The Romulans are without honour. Blah blah blah.

Thanks Worf. Cheers.

Just the sort of insight I'm desperate for from a tactical and weapons specialist.

They never ever made proper use of the nanoprobes. Those little things should be able to unleash a The Earth Stood Still-remake-finale vengeance upon the galaxy. Or a grey goo doomsday scenario as McCoy feared in the The Delta Anomaly STXI academy novel. Instead they just ruin everyone's tan.:borg:
