Borg Technology (Speculation)

As its been made so abundantly clear throughout the "Star Trek" franchise, The Borg Collective "Assimilate" their technology from other species, however, I think it would be interesting to speculate which race served as a source or inspiration for a particular type of Borg Technology,

For example, It would be fitting if the Borg aquired their knack for understanding verbale languages and computer languages from Arturis' species (Species 116) if we treat Borg species designations as being chronological and surmise that by assimilation of the species, the Borg gained a superior "Universal Translator" ability, then it works in favour of this speculation

So discuss and speculate, What kinds of Borg Technology came from specific species?

Star Trek doesn't need speech marks around it.

Difficult to answer the question really because of the sheer speculation it requires, who is to say where the Borg got any specific item of technology from?

I could say they got their shield technology from species 127 but it would just be a completely made up statement.

I'd argue that since they have already catalogued more than 10,000 species by the time of VOY, they'd already have multiple sources for every conceivable aspect of technology or skill. Backtracking would be futile even if we had "real" access to the Star Trek universe and could study those things the episodes and movies leave unmentioned.

Also we have to take into consideration the Borg usually leave no survivors, beyond maybe a handful that escape and are considered unworthy to chase. Point is they utterly destroy civilizations, so there isn't much evidence to follow. The race they got the transwarp drive from is more than likely gone, all dead or assimilated.

OTOH, not every species they have numbered has been assimilated (yet). Humans and Vulcans and Ferengi have their species numbers, and relatively low ones at that, but so far the Borg interest in them seems to be in assimilating their technology rather than their species. It shouldn't be impossible or even improbable to find the originators of Borg tech X or method Y alive and well, then. It's just that we have no idea where to look and what to look for.
