Borderland

Mott the barber

Just caught it for the first time on my Tivo. I missed most of the last season of ENT. but I thought this was a cool episode. Lots of action and Spiner was great as Arik. The augment actors were only so-so, however. I feel like I need to watch the season in order though because I was definitely lost on a few subplot points.

Thoughts on the ep?

The Augments trilogy was terrific. Spiner was great so the was the main Augment dude (who was also in the Dune miniseries).

I enjoyed Borderland. It felt like the first act of a mini-telefilm. I enjoyed the teaser where the Augments whupped the Klingons, loved the alien market with the Orions and a slave girl. I thought the idea of how they brought the Augments onto the series was clever. Brent was great. I liked the crew heading out again on another adventure from spacedock. I liked the new look of the ship.

I have Cold Station 12 Tivoed but what's the last one in the trilogy?

I thought Borderland was the best of the augment arc. I agree with the comments above -- Brent Spiner was fun to see and did a great job. Alec was good - although not as good as he normally is (which is utterly fantastic). I loved seeing the Orions and thought the capture of some of Enterprise's crew and the escape scenes were great!

Yeah, that was a great episode. I loved it when The Big Show picked up Jolene like she was a twig or something.:rommie:

Thought it was one of the best season 4 scripts, although it's writer was fired after the decidedly less than stellar, Daedalus.

The script coupled with Brent Spiner's scene stealing performance, not to mention the mush mouthed "Big Show", plus the typical season 4 tie-in to classic TOS, made for a great episode.

"Borderland" was a lot of fun. Like all of season four's arc trilogies, it lost some steam in the later two episodes, but I still really enjoyed the whole thing. Spiner was great, and I thought Newman was good, too (though not as good as he's shown he can be, as others have previously mentioned). Plus I'm a sucker for anything dealing with Khan and the Eugenics Wars anyway. :D

This trilogy is another good example of how ENT was cancelled at the wrong time. They were really hitting a creative stride with consistently good shows. Unfortunately, by then it was too late for the series, but we can still enjoy these great eps.

I think Manny Coto did major rewrites of the first 2 Augments episodes (without claiming credit), which is probably why they were so good. The contract for both writers who ended up getting credit wasn't renewed at mid season, and one them (Brennert) used a pseudonym on the credits which is a clear indication of major rewrites.

I loved Soong's/Spiner's retro-reference to creating artificial lifeforms over several generations at the end of "The Augments"...Maybe a tad cheesy, but it had to be done. Hehe

Okay so it's been months, but I finally got around to watching the entire trilogy. Wow! If they put out more episodes like this earlier on I think ENT might have had a different fate.
Best scene of all 3 from a TNG-diehard's perspective...the very last scene when Arik is back in prison and alludes to artificial life (ie: Data). I also thought it was neat to realize why Noonien Soong's name was so similar to Khan's after all these years. I'm not a fan of prequel series in general, but this is the kind of gap filling that really works, especially for long time fans.
