I wonder if it's related to the alcohol molecule having hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts. I can imagine that creating a kind of ionic shield around the superconductor, analogous to the shielding around coaxial cable.

Another class of molecules which are better designed to exhibit this property are detergents. They should test those next.
