Bones is now an Avatar Infomercial!

I probably would have been less annoyed if I hadn't read this thread before seeing the episode.

Effing classic.

Anyways, I'm not opposed to product placement in general. I think it can add a certain level of realism or familiarity to something. I'd rather see someone drinking a Coke than some of the obviously-fake products that I've seen over the years. The 'Avatar' thing, on the other hand, was a bit much. If they were going to do it, they should've done it in a more natural manner. What we had here was bluntly shoved into the episode. It might have worked better if it was something, like, someone found a body at a screening of 'Avatar' or something. I dunno, that's probably stupid. But either way, this needed more polish.

Better idea than what we got, the person could have been dressed up as the blue elf thing and the blue stuff made the skin melt off.

Anything would have been better than what we got!

Brikar does have a better idea.
I don't recall the specifics but in the closing episodes of CSI this past May they had a murder at a Star Trek(maybe just sci-fi) convention. While it was an obvious tie-in to the new Star Trek movie(does CBS still have a stake?) it was a much more seemless plot incorporation.

As far as blatant advertising/shilling goes, it was well played out. Doesn't change the fact it was a blatant advertisement for Avatar and a trend I would not encourage but at least the writers made a modest effort to include it into the story.

This show often uses humor, but it isn't usually as awkward as this. These guys were just too old to be believable holding a place in line for tickets to a MOVIE over that long a time period.
