Bones is now an Avatar Infomercial!

I loved this episode. :rommie: There were great interactions between Hodgins, Sweets and Fisher. The nerd love for Avatar was consistent with the main plot involving Gamer culture. And the whole thing was so over-the-top that it became Burlesque; I found it hilarious, rather than annoying like the Budweiser and Nokia nonsense in nu Trek.

And Avatar was completely under my radar before this, so I guess it worked. :rommie:

I felt last season was the weakest and season 3 and 4 finales were poor but so far this season has been better, the cast chemistry is still the best reason to the show over the plot. Apart from the Avatar trailer I felt it worked pretty well into the episode it was funny. However Bones would still probably be best to wrap it up next season after 6 though FOX looks like it wants 7/8 minimum.

Bones has been terrible lately. I quit watching it last season.

If I had anything better to do i would give up too, the show no longer has a point. They seem to just be making new episodes just to be able to sell them. The first season Bones was kind of odd, but smart and she was looknig for her parents, then there was the Gamadron or whatever storyline mess. The last two seasons there have been no point at all to the show, and Bones is stupid. All the episodes are stand alone and almost nothing builds onto each other. That works for L&O, but L&O is still better written.

People willingly watch this show? It's awful. The writing and acting is just terrible. It acts as if it's something really deep but it's nothing but an X-Files knock off bizarrely enough.

Don't feed the troll who is trolling the wrong show.

I thought it was hysterical to see Sweets, Hodgins, and Fisher conspiring together and geeking out over a movie. Yeah, it was blatant product-placement, but for the characters, it worked for me.

I didn't know that the actor portraying Fisher was in Avatar. Knowing that, some of the scenes are even more funny.

How is Bones like the X-Files? Uh... a redheaded scientist and a dark haired FBI agent work together on cases. There's a lot of sexual tension between them and supposed cute "banter." Even the way their relationship develops is pretty much like the X-Files. They are a very poor carbon copy of Mulder and Scully.

And I ain't the only one who sees it: http://www.medialifemagazine.com/news2005/sep05/sept12/2_tues/news4tuesday.html

And I find it hilarious that bigdaddy is accusing someone else of trolling.

That's called drama.
Under those simple rules then any male/female relationship is X-Files, even those that came before it like Moonlighting.
How about Castle? No doubt we could go on and frankly I seem to recall Mulder and Scully being compared to Moonlighting's Maddie & David back before the glorious internet kept track of everything.

Don't be ridiculous. Booth and Brennan have almost the same jobs as Mulder and Scully. They ripped off the X-Files. It's okay, many shows rip off other shows, just not usually so blatantly and so terribly.

Congratulations! You won the award for most clueless person on TrekBBS!

Bones is based (loosely) on the novels of Kathy Reichs. Nothing like the X-Files at all. Hardly a rip-off.

What? How do Booth and Brennan have almost the same jobs? Bones isn't even in the FBI, nor are the secondary characters.

Denying the influence X-Files' had on Bones would be foolish, and archetypically there's some serious similarities between the two partnerships. But that's true of Castle as well, as an example. Archetypes are made to be re-used and re-mixed, and that includes character types.

Now if Booth starts talking seriously about government conspiracies and alien abductions, or the show transitions to incorporate supernatural elements, you might have a point. But while the thematic underpinnings are so far apart, that's a silly accusation.

This.

The key word there is loosely. I know all about the Kathy Reichs books in which Bones was an alcoholic. Quite, quite different from the show.

And go on insulting me big daddy. From you it's practically a compliment.

DAMN IT. I lose EVERY freakin' contest... :scream:

This is the future of TV, people! Shameless product placement. As more and more people turn to downloading shows, the advertisers feel the need to sneak product plugs into TV shows.

I didn't watch the ep in question, but that really does sound appalling.
