Bond cancelled

And Judi Dench is the same M in all of the last six Bond films. ANOTHER reason why Craig's films don't work as prequels.

Why does that matter at all? So what if she's the same? It's a reboot so they keep and change what they want.

Judi Dench's M from Casino/Quantum is different from the M in the Brosnan flicks.

Different? How so?

As for the current Q: I have no idea. Dominic Keating, maybe. I thought he was pretty cool on ENT.

It seems like she plays M different in the Craig Bonds. Also, if she were the same M as in the Brosnan 007s, you'd think there'd be some reference to the OTHER Bond who also has the 007 agent number, since Craig's Bond would've been operating (while not at 00 status) while Brosnan's 00 status was still active.

See I don't really see the difference between Dench's M in the two different sagas. She seems the same to me in both - but more of a hardass in the Craig era.

My point was Casino Royale was billed as a prequel to all the other movies, but they kept Judi Dench as M, a character that came in with Brosnan in Goldeneye and was clearly spelled out as a new M in that film. If Casino Royale was a prequel, then M should have been recast again, this time as a man.

Of course, all of Craig's computerized gadgets should not have existed in the 1950's either, but that's a whole other discussion.

^Continuity.

Dench didn't take over as M until Brosnan's movies. If CR is supposed to be before those then M should be male as seen in the prior Bond movies.

Of course, continuity goes out the window here as CR would still be set in 2006.

Also, IIRC, Dench's version of M is partly a reference to Stella Rimington, the first real life female Director-General of MI5.

You guys are getting way too hung up on this issue.

Agreed.

And if *I* think that, then the situation must be hopeless.

seriously though. Like I said, every new Bond is a de facto reboot anyway. Even if some elements, such as M, are the same, with every new actor to play Bond comes a blank slate to do with the films as they wish.

^That's true up to a point, but both Moore and Dalton's Bonds acknowleged the death of Tracy (twice for Roger Moore in fact)

There were a handful of references to past events in the pre-Craig Bond films, but by and large they're standalones with common elements. The novels, on the other hand, often refer to past events and Bond has ongoing interactions with characters as they're introduced and then appear again in later books. If anyone is planning to read through the novels they'd be well-advised to read them in the correct order.

That internal consistency was something I liked. I enjoyed how every time Bond met Leiter, there was less of him there.
