BoldlyGo.ca's Review of "Encounter at Farpoint"

I've since found out that this pilot cost a certain percentage of viewers, because while I and the reviewer think it had a TOS style "pattern" it was still too different for some not to continue with the series. As the story goes, many people rediscovered the series later on.

For me, there are a lot of sticking points. Some below par acting, the old fashioned "style", the shoehorned B plot. However, it HAS that solid Trek feel. The attempt at something more, and it seems big scale for 1987.

I found it interesting to learn that the B plot of Farpoint is really what was intended to be the B plot. Q was the part shoehorned in, despite other writers reluctance and reservations, at Gene's insistence. And that's the part that stuck!
