Boiling Water In Space

So in order for this to work, we have to invent, develop, and create several other technologies that don't yet exist.
I don't quite care for your negative attitude! THIS IS WHY THE TERRORISTS ARE WINNING!

If you want to send fuel into orbit, you need a rocket to carry it there.

Do you? never heard of a space elevator?

I didn't know there were any operating Space Elevators on the planet.

I didn't know there were plans to put my idea into motion.

Hi, would you care to read YOUR WORDS?

If you want to send fuel into orbit, you need a rocket to carry it there.

Do you? never heard of a space elevator?

YOUR WORDS, in BOLD, ITALICS, and UNDERLINED.

You don't quite grasp what I'm saying. *sigh*

There's no reason these powerplants cannot wait until we have space elevators.
I said these powerplants will be used to power space colonies, do you see any space colonies out there? do we have any space colonies yet? do we have the money, backing and capability to construct right now massive space colonies?

we could have a space elevator in 20 years time for all you know and we could then construct these powerplants and the space colonies that they will power.

Why are you looking at what we have here and now??

Your argument of "I didn't know there were any operating Space Elevators on the planet?" is a nonsensical one.

Actually, your statement about "Never heard of a Space Elevator" is more nonsensical; however, that hasn't stopped you in this entire thread.

How so? the argument against my idea was one of cost and means by which to get it into space. An entire post argued costs to get things up by rocket.

If the only argument they can really fall on is getting fuel, water and materials into space and the cost of doing so then they're simply thinking illogically. in the future and quite possibly the NEAR future rockets could be replaced by the famous space elevator making the idea cheaper and more feasible.

If we're going to have space colonies then the very least that needs to be done is a safer easier and cheaper method to get things into space. A space elevator is the next logical step.

Never heard of warp drive?

Nobody knows how to even warp space let alone generate the amount of power required to do it nor does anyone know the effects.

A space elevator however is only a few years away, especially if carbon nano tubes are perfected further.

You've failed to present any reasonable argument against my idea and have now resorted to this sillyness.

Again, you started it. I want to see numbers that will prove the Space Elevator will be cheaper and safer to operate. To top it off, you have a big *IF* in your statement about carbon nanotube technology being further perfected.

Your whole query is about the feasibility and practicality of solar steam turbines. But if they're dependent on half a dozen other technologies that haven't been developed yet, how do we know how feasible they are? The only reasonable response would be "sure, why not?" End of thread.

If you want to discuss feasibility in realistic terms, you have to invoke technologies that are proven to work now. You can't just wave your magic wand and say, "Oh, they'll get around that somehow."

Oh right, so if we don't have space elevators yet that means any ideas I think of that space elevators might make cheaper and easier must be kept quiet.

I understand now!

No, but it does mean that if space elevators are the only way to make your project work, you need to mention them in your proposal. Not as a "patch" or "workaround" five pages into the thread when someone brings up a very real practical problem with your idea. You can't solve problems with one theoretical technology by invoking another. If you do, you're just pulling ideas out of hammerspace (as I said elsewhere).
