Body Swap Stones, Good or Bad Idea?

A thought: If one of the parties in a 'swap' dies while in the borrowed body, is the other person stuck in theirs?

I am about 99.99999% sure this will provide a story in the future. We saw when Daniel and Vala were connected to other bodies that those bodies dying killed them, but the connection was only running one way - there was no-one inhabiting 'their' bodies on Earth.

It's a good thing they plan on covering the issue in the future, but they'll have to come up with a pretty good reason why the issue hasn't come up yet.

One thing that they should already be doing is arranging for a crew member to be present to receive the swappee. Young swapped with Telford (Darkness, I think) and Telford didn't know why he was hurting so bad, nor did the crew know a swap had taken place. If someone had been present to say, "Hey, you're in so-and-so's body, here's what's up." things would be simpler all around.

Well to be fair Young did leave a note.

The only issue ive had with the stones so far is the sheer coincidence that every time Young pops back to visit earth, Telford has just happened to come and take over Stone Watching Duty, shouldnt Peter DeLuise end up on the Destiny once in a while? Unless of course, thats intentional and Telford isnt quite what he seems.

^ Well the all-of-twice that they've been used by Young and Telford has been there, yes - its established that he is somewhat obsessive about being with the stones, so I don't think him being there twice is really a big coincidence.
But he isn't the only one whose visited Destiny - the first time Young stones back to the SGC, it's Dr Lee, and when Chloe used the stone, that civilian woman whose name escapes me came instead.

I'm on the fence about the stones. I really don't care to see them used as tearjerker dramatic material. "Hi, honey! It's your husband! Only I'm in someone else's body because mine is trapped on the other side of the universe. Now let's have a crushing scene where I promise to come back and you tell me you can't wait that long!"

I agree with QCzar, who said the stones should have a "price" for using them. They should also be turned against the crew of the Destiny at some point, hopefully as a consequence of using them cavalierly, so they realize they can't just go body-swapping whenever they feel like it. Or, have them malfunction at some point and send people to different stones entirely, and not the ones back on Earth.

Interesting. I wonder if that means "we'll use them like that" or "we'll contrive a reason why we can't use them like that"

Just guessing, but think that the experts might get there and conclude that those on the spot are doing as well as they could. Rush and Eli are pretty bright. Guessing that they'll use Carter or McKay to show how difficult of a situation they are in by failing to solve it.

I don't get it before Col Telford took command one of the volunteer stone sitters for the crew home visits was a Senior Airman. I got it the wrong people are on Destiny but when someone is swapped onto the ship do you continue to send the wrong people?

If you're talking about the beginning of Earth, then I got the impression the only priority there was to get Young back so he could sit in on the briefing. It didn't matter who got sent back to Destiny.

That's the point, wasn't the mission to see what was on the other side of the ninth chevron? Well that was Destiny. All they learn about her is what people can remember and verbally say. Unless the Airman which switched with the IOC's Ming-Na has somekind of total recall you would think the Danial Jackson's of the Stargate program would be fighting to be the earth end of the stone watch. Unless they fear what the wrong people will do with their bodies while they visit earth.

Well, that would explain why all the smart people have avoided using the stones to get to the Destiny. They've all noticed the lack of any monitoring for what's going to happen to their bodies on Earth.

Daniel: So, what happens to my body on Earth? Are you going to keep them on-base and monitored?

Jack: Nah. We let them wander off base and do whatever they want...

Daniel: Yeah, thanks for the opportunity, but I think I'll pass...

I want the eventually gender swap accident episode to happen and get it over with. Eli winds up in the body of Dr. Keller from Atlantis. Or whatever.

Well it has happened to Daniel in the past. :techman:

Good point. We know gender swap is possible, since Vala once used the stones to take over Daniel's body. So I wonder when they'll get around to it here.

Where they are going is of course there will be body issues and all sorts of bull will the stones. Who the heck came uo with that?

So now you get to go back and forth.... that somewhat negates the idea of being alone and far from home. Hey, I will warm up to you name it science fiction wise but even I am becoming bored.

You're all missing the real question.

If someone in the middle of a stone-swap is captured by the Dollhouse and Topher wipes them, who gets erased?

And is it possible to swap an Active onto Destiny, who can then be made to sit in Rush's chair, and then when the knowledge starts to overwrite them can be yanked back to Earth and wiped? From one chair to the other, so to speak?

Actually if they show up at the Dollhouse then they will just be cancelled.

I'm sure they schedule times when whoever is on duty to swap with whoever, they've got a time schedule made I bet to time body swaps.
