His physician has advised him to sit the first few games out.

Damn.

He says that he is still looking forward to announcing games in the new stadium.

I will not be able to be at Yankee Stadium for the series with the Cubs or Opening Day...My personal physician has advised me to wait until I am ready.

Best wishes for your health, Mr. Sheppard...Yankees fans are praying for you.

(side note: Derek Jeter is still using the recording Sheppard made for him. Apparently this will continue for Jeter's entire career, unless Sheppard returns to the announcer's booth full time)
