I do have a separate but slightly related question: is there one particular thread which sparked the various "canon violation" avatars, or is it just a meme which spread like the "NOT.DEAD." avatars after The Abomination aired?

I gotta work on my idea for the TOS Romulan Bird of Prey from Balance O' Terror (although I've never done anything major in Photoshop or like software before!)

Sombrero up top, Maracas for the engines, Life Saver-dispensing Mark Lenard head for the plasma torpedo launcher.

The genesis of the "canon violation" avatar thing may or may not have been an idea in the BR for several people to wear the "canon cat" picture, but from that point on, yeah -- pretty much a meme. There is or was a thread in Misc. which catalogs some of the spread.
