BLSSDWLF's TOS Enterprise WIP

If the struts are aligned to the spokes, shouldn't there have been a strut between the two ladies?

I don't think those are spokes behind Colt and Number One. Notice there are two "spokes", one above each character but we know that in the wide shots the ceiling ring has only 6 spokes. I believe what you see above their heads are trim moulding near the top of the set's wall. The spacing is too tight to be spokes from the ceiling ring. I've included a visual to show where the characters are and where the strut would be and why they are not visible in the shot you linked to.

Now, whether they actually built 6 struts I cannot say. It's very possible that they only built 4 and deliberately shot around the missing 2 struts for whatever reasons. :)

I think you're right and it turns out the evidence is right here in this picture I've been looking at for the last few days:

In the top right of the picture is the dark curve of what can only be the ceiling disc.

The upper wall detail of the vertical panels can also be seen above the door in WNMHGB:

The use of it there is curious, since it gives the appearance of another door stacked on top of the real one!

I think the obvious reason would be the budget!

@BK613 - It's been a while hasn't it? :)

I think it is the number 5 strut. While browsing for reference pics I ran across this BTS photo on flickr.

On the left strut, looking into the semi-transparent screen of the strut you can make out the shape of the ring and the shape/angle of #5 strut and it is where it should be if you follow the spoke.

@blssdwlf What a pleasant surprise to come back to from my vacation.

Do you think the strut visible behind Tyler and Blueshirt ( in their two-shot ) is number 5 or a re-positioned 1-4?

That's a cracking photo find!
It also shows just how ridiculously high those struts are - 12 feet tall, maybe?

Possibly. The outer wall I have at 12 feet but I'm tweaking everything now as I'm not satisfied with the table. I thought it might have been a Burke conference table but the shape doesn't match up.

Doing some more refinement on the conference room and I think this is a better match. I'm temporarily using the BTS photo as reference to get a better angle on the table which now is smaller and thus the frames now fall into alignment better too.

Are you now thinking that there are 6 support struts? I thought that (as it was last discussed here) there were a max of 4 - although 6 looks much nicer!

Forgive me if I’ve asked this before, but do you employ some sort of photogrammetry program?

I wish I used one (sometimes, on the difficult models). Years ago I looked into it but I didn't find something that could work with the (usually limited) source materials. I think nowadays there are newer programs out there so I might take a look again.

@Mytran, on the original BTS photo on flickr you can make out the shape of strut #5 thru the semi-transparent material in the left strut closest to the camera. In the HD screenshots you can also see a part of that shape once you know where to look.

I think it is reasonable to conclude there is a matching #6 strut opposite of the #5 strut.

Ah fair enough. Am I getting confused with the layout depicted in WNMHGB perhaps?

Maybe. At most we see 3 simultaneously in WNMHGB but overall 4 were seen and if the pattern holds the missing 2 were just behind the camera so in my mind I think it is safe to assume 6.

Okay, I still need work on the table shape. I think the overall room is in good shape even though some of the struts are not exactly in perfect hexagonal positions but I think I can live with the variance.

I love this stuff, I wish I was better at 3D modelling and give it another go.
Mind you, I do have a 3D printer now.
Maybe I will print my own TOS bridge at a scale that can take some figures?
Yeah........ :D
