I guess I am a little late to the party but when I designed the bridge to the HMAS Daunless in 2001 for the Steam Trek website (
http://steam-trek.com) I had some very different ideas.
First an formost the ship needs to have a ship's wheel, or for navigation in three dimentions, a wheel within a wheel. A binnacle is also a must have, along with a engine telegraph. These would be in the hands of the stearsman.
The navigational/tactical stations would require armillary spheres and between them a grand orrey.
The communications station needs wires and jack board like an old style operators station.
The Captain's chair would have various speaking tubes to each side.
Check out the picture by Cory Gross and the deck plan that I generated at

I like the approaches demonstrated above but I can see you have started with Star Trek and worked toward steampunk where I have started with Classic Victorian Steampunk and worked toward Star Trek.
I wish I had the skill to render in 3D but alas do not have the time or energy to learn a new skill. below are some 2D drawings that get my ideas across. Might anyone be interested in working on some of my designs for the website.
