Bleach - Anime Disscussion (Spoilers)

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

This one was pretty good. I'm still not certain that Hinamori is 100%, but I think if anything she'll put a dagger in Aizen's Carotid if she gets the chance. A woman scorned and all that...

Otherwise, I'm just hoping the Filler coming up is good (if it's Manga Based)

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

The Manga story in question is cute and is just a few pages long. This filler will probably be something fun and light. I know there is some really dark stuff coming up and Bleach probably even needs this kind of break.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Bleach 225

I expected it that the battle against Allon the beast will be toned down from the Manga. You can get away with far more in book form or Anime form. But Bleach on TV is also aimed at children. Ratings would suffer if Bleach would need a time slot
not meant for family viewing or some parents might stop children from watching it. I know that there are some parents who don`t allow their child to watch the news or read the paper because it might “frighten” them. One mother was amazed that I allow my daughter to watch Dr Who. I don`t share their attitude. I think keeping a child “innocent” is the same as keeping it ignorant. And that is not doing the child any favours.

I have a six-year-old daughter who loves Bleach. She also reads the latest Mangas on line which are uncensored. I know she has no problems with it also because she grew up watching pretty much everything (there are some exceptions) what we adults are watching. But we would never allow her to watch something like Bleach unsupervised. We are not like some parents who park their children in front of the TV and leave them alone with it. That would be harmful and especially for such children some compromises for what violence can be shown is necessary.

We encouraged our daughter from early on to talk about what is happening on TV and she definitely does so when watching Bleach. My opinion is Bleach is a good example of a series that can give also a younger child a lot more than the typical harmless fluff made specifically for them. My daughter was three years old when she suddenly looked at us when we watched the news and said “I don`t like guns”. She already has a good sense of what is right and wrong. She feels with characters who get hurt. I explained to her why captain Komamura was wearing a disguise in order to hide who he is and that he was treated badly because of what he looks like. “That is not fair!” was her reaction and she is glad that things have changed.

I think we should keep in mind that also fairy tales can be extremely violent but they encourage a child much less to look at the real world and think about it than something like Bleach. And, of course, Bleach has a lot of fun and a lot of positive messages too like the value of friendship.

I am not letting her watch strong horror movies, strong sadism or strong sexual violence yet but that violence has consequences is something also younger children should understand. When my daughter was much younger we had to explain to her a few times that when people are dead they don`t come back. She understands that now. Violence in real life is not a video game.

When we looked at the Manga with the beast together it didn`t frighten her. She found it fascinating. I think the main reason is because it is a fairy tale creature and definitely not real.

I think some compromises in this episode worked better than others. What annoyed me is the underlying message that showing a woman with serious injuries and showing her bleeding is less acceptable than with male characters. I never accepted the viewpoint that the life of a woman is more precious than that of a male. “Children first” is fine with me but why should women be saved first or get preferential treatment (unless she is pregnant, of course) just because they are female?

I never expected to see the big hole in Matsumoto`s side as in the Manga. I even think the silhouette showing her getting hurt including the blood splattering and Allon`s bloodied hand was a good compromise. But then it got somewhat ridiculous. The bloodless scratches did not correspond at all with the silhouette image shown before. I am sure if Matsumoto would have been a man the Anime would have shown more like some blackish blood and at least some hints that there is a deep gash in her side.

With Hinamori it was a similar story. She mainly got internal injuries but nevertheless, it was toned down too much for my taste.

What I liked very much is that Hitsugaya showed real concern when Matsumoto got hurt.

What happened to Hisagi was much more graphic and I am sure, the main reason is because he is male. It worked well. I was reminded of his excellent battle a few episodes back. It certainly touched me and it was right that we saw some blood even if it is the typical black colour.

That Kira was once in Squad 4 explains a lot about his character and I welcomed that revelation.

I think the beast of the Anime version was a good compromise. It is not as scary as in the Manga but there was no doubt about it that this creature is extremely dangerous, unpredictable and giving the good guys real problems. More, some of them were at times really scared and I couldn`t blame them at all. The music fitted very well and underlined the threat this monster posed very well.

I have no problem with it that there were also some lighter scenes. Ukitake vs. Lilinette was fun. I loved that part. It is a shame that the animations of Stark and Shunsui were sometimes off a bit but it wasn`t that bad. In general I still think that the quality of the animations has improved a lot compared with early Bleach.

It was a good episode but it has some flaws.

Also keep in mind that Bleach airs during a timeslot where it is subject to Japanese TV editing and what we're watching are someones TV Rips. The DVD versions aren't though, and may or may not be a little more extreme. The show rarely needs it, but it has happened a few times I think.

Also Bleach is technically aimed at the middle school and high school crowd like most shounen series. Usually, there's not much objectionable material in them unless you get into the stuff like Claymore, X TV, D.Gray-man, or Kurokami which deal with a little more serious subject matter and can be more violent.

As for the episode I was extremely disappointed that everyone was taken out so early and so easily. I just don't see how something like that could be so formidable. Old man Yamato had to come bail them out and made it look like child's play. :(

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

The beast certainly looks more threatening in the Manga. Unfortunately it looks like it that this time there were some short cuts with the animations and also some excessive censorship. Nevertheless, I still think it was good in spite of certain flaws.

I thought it was positive that the good guys were hit so badly this time. After all the other Arrancar were defeated relatively easy I found it interesting that it were the relatively harmless looking three females who posed the most serious threat at the end by creating the beast.

I had a look at Wikipedia. Next week they show the last regular episode before the following fillers start:

227 Wonderful Error

228 Summer! Sea! Swimsuit Festival!

229 The Rug Shinigami is born

230 The materialization of Zanpakuto

Hm, it seems we are getting three short stories before the longer filler starts. The first story is based on a short story Manga. It is a flashback about Ichigo and Chad starting high school.

The second one should be fun! It is based on one of the Bleach drama CDs. I also remember bits and pieces in Manga form especially about the ladies buying swimsuits. My daughter and I were amused about the picture with the ladies in swimsuits on the beach I have seen. I am not sure I could run or even play beach volleyball wearing that without the use of some super glue. But that is fine with me. I just hope we female fans also get something nice to look at.

I am curious what the third story is. Hopefully it is not another annoying Kon filler!

I wonder how long the Zanpaktuo filler will be. I know very little about it. Ichigo is not in it but Zangetsu is. I can`t imagine that we will get a full season without Ichigo and friends. My guess is it will have about the same length as the “Turn back the Pendulum” chapter.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Bleach 226

The previous episode has some flaws but this one was absolutely perfect! I loved it!

It started with something interesting when I watched the “last time on” part. Now Hinamori had specks of blood on her face. They were obviously edited out but left in this time. It will be a very long time until this season is released as an uncut boxed set but I am already curious if Matsumoto`s injury will also look more realistic.

The beast definitely looked more scary compared to last week and nothing was cut that shouldn`t be. Yamamoto showed his incredible powers but also his pity for this beast. When I read the Manga for the first time I found the beast scary but also felt sorry for it. It was after all an animal. The episode showed very well how confused it became and that it was in spite of its nature also a victim. Nothing was cut here and I think the Anime did an impressive job. The red and the shadows worked very well.

As the last episode before the break is was important to show what everyone involved is doing right now and get people curious about what will happen when this main story returns. This time the Anime definitely did a better job than the Manga. There are extra scenes that add a lot and also how the different elements are put together works very well.

I like this start of Hitsugaya`s battle against Harribel. That Harribel`s release outfit was toned down shouldn`t surprise anyone. I am admittedly not a male and I am prepared to be tolerant towards the male writer. Although I am not a prude an outfit that is supposed to be worn during a battle has at least to be somewhat practical. From that point of view Harribel`s Manga outfit was nothing else but ridiculous. Breasts move and most definitely in a battle. Unless you glue the outfit on her, Harribel`s assets would refuse to stay neatly covered. I think the Anime showed a good compromise. Harribel`s outfit is still revealing but at least she can fight in it without the need for super glue.

Barragan, Stark and Harribel all released in a colourful burst of light. Nice! There was no doubt that all of them are to be taken very seriously, more than the weaker Arrancar. It was good to see that the Shinigami who are facing them are very much aware of that. And I think the Anime did a good job here to end on a high.

The switch to Hueco Mundo worked very well, too. It was great to see Renji, Chad and Rukia in action again! What I very much appreciated is the scenes showing Byakuya, Kenpachi and Ishida being healed. It doesn`t help that the subtitles don`t make it easy to see but it looked to me that Nemu is holding her hand over Ishida`s abdomen the way a healer does. It would be news to me that Nemu is a healer but I would like that very much.

And the start of the Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra battle – it was stunning! The use of shades and colours worked as well as I hoped for, maybe even better. Expressions and body language looked perfect to me like the fierce determination of Ichigo and the calm, calculated response of Ulquiorra who had obviously no trouble at this point to fight him. The sparks were a nice touch that wasn`t in the Manga. Ichigo`s passionate speech was more detailed. I liked Ulquiorra`s reaction and the fireworks of colour fired by Ichigo`s determination and passion. The music was a great fit. Perfect!

I don`t have any doubts any more. The Anime will not only do the Ichigo/Ulquiorra battle justice, it will be the most powerful part of the Bleach series so far.

The end bit was great, too! It made me laugh when Chad and Ishida dragged Ichigo away and Ulquiorra was going for a break.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Yeah another good episode. Yamamoto made toast out of those 3 instantly. It was a surprise to see that Stark was number 1 there. Kyoraku is going to have a challenge.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Yes, I was surprised too. Unfortunately it seems we are in for a long wait.

If this is correct (I am still trying to find out) the Zanpakuto filler is 52 episodes long, about the same size as the Bount story. Usually I wouldn`t mind that at all but 52 episodes without Ichigo and his friends, if that is true that is too much for my taste.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

I've been away for awhile but life has a way of causing that every now and then.

I just caught up on Bleach 225 & 226 today and I have to say, these were A-Game.
I like the fact that Stark was #1, especially since he's facing Kyouraku Shunsui. I've always wanted to see what the Students of Yamamoto could do if they went for it all out...

I keep wondering if Hitsugaya will one day take Yamamoto's place as Captain Commander (Seeing as he's the Gifted-One and wields an Elemental Blade.)

The flashbacks made me realize that I'd enjoy a time-jump forward at the end of the Aizen-arc if it means getting to see where all the characters lives have taken them (similar to Naruto Shippuden.)

Of course that's jumping the gun a bit, the fillers are going to be around for a while, and the Vizard haven't even taken the field yet... Not to mention Papa Kurosaki, we've still got lots of show left to go.

Side-Note: I kind of wish we could get the thread title changed to just "Bleach" or "Bleach - Anime Disscussion" I didn't realize this would become the Anime thread back when I started it all those months ago... ah well.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

I like that idea that Hitsugaya could one day take Yamamoto`s place. Especially keeping in mind his young age he is extremely powerful with a huge potential. Also, he has shown that he has good leadership abilities. What he first of all needs is more experience and he is going to get that. And I must admit, I like him and I think he is my daughter`s favourite male character in Bleach.

A title change would be good but I prefer the option “Bleach – Anime Discussion” because there is also the Manga. I am up to date with the Mangas too but I keep quiet about it because otherwise it would spoil the Anime episodes that are not fillers.

I sent a message via the “notify moderator” button.

Well, tomorrow we should be able to watch the first of the three one-episode short stories. The school episode should be fun.

By the way, so far the news that the Zanpakuto will be 52 episodes long is still nothing else but a strong rumour. As soon as I find something official, I will mention it here.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

^Many thanks for notifying Neroon.

I appreciate your restraint in regards to the Manga. I've been an anime viewer primarily and while I've snuck a peek every now and again during a long gap, I've been meaning to go through the manga eventually from page 1.

If I might ask, what is the current chapter of Bleach translated into English right now? (350 something or higher?)

I follow the manga too, myself, but only the US version so I'm on volume 27 (chapter 242 is the last in that volume). It's at the point where Orihime leaves for Hueco Mundo. Speaking of, the scene where Orihime pulls a B and E and says goodbye to the sleeping Ichigo admitting that she loves him, was far more impactful in the anime. To me that scene was one of my favorites in the series. They devoted a whole episode to showing how Uqiora's cruel little game tore at her. :(

I'm looking forward to Ichigo dishing out some payback for that to him.

227 wasn't bad for filler. Nothing really noteworth to speak of though.

That was fun but so interesting at the same time! I expected to like this first filler but enjoyed it so much that I watched it again immediately just to study all these details about the characters and what they were doing just before the start of the Bleach series. I could see that the makers of this episode put a lot of thought and effort into it. There is the Manga short story but also some of the very early scenes of Bleach were drawn again and updated. Especially these parts showed me very clearly how much the Bleach Anime has improved during the years. I really enjoyed it to see some of these very early scenes with this new art. The new scenes fit perfectly into this mix. I was actually disappointed when the episode finished because I would have liked to watch much more of this.

I loved the beautiful cherry blossoms. The vice-captain meeting made me laugh. There are lots of nice little character details again. It was very amusing but maybe it shouldn`t be so amusing that according to Shunsui spring is the perfect season for hangovers. But also that fits with what we have seen in early Bleach.

One of my favourite little moments was seeing Ishida walking to school and reading a book at the same time, lost in his own world. And I noticed the parakeet.

Another one of my favourite scenes is when Tatsuki was testing Orihime`s reflexes. It reminded me that Orihime showed some of her fighting skills she learned from her friend when Orihime and Ishida were a team in the Soul Society. I remember Ishida was amazed that she single handedly knocked out two Shinigami in order to take their uniforms. I miss that Orihime so much….

The swimsuit summer special looks like fun, too and not only for the male fans. I am looking forward to it.

Yes, the latest Bleach paperback of the Mangas is issue 27. By the way, the latest German one is issue 35 and the latest Japanese one is issue 39. Issue 39 ends exactly where the Anime just stopped for fillers.

The Japanese issue 40 should be out in August. I usually don`t buy the Japanese versions but I want to get issue 40 and 41 because the coming story is simply brilliant and already my favourite part of Bleach. I can`t wait to see it in Anime form!

Sometimes it is very interesting to compare the Manga and the Anime versions. The Anime is usually very good at expanding the Manga. Yes, I loved that part before Orihime left too. Don`t worry, there will be payback. That is all I am saying…

Bleach 228

That was great fun! It started with the ladies buying swim suits. There were some nice character moments here. I especially liked that part when Unohana persuaded Isane with a very kind friendly smile to buy the swimsuit matching hers – and obviously, nobody argues with Unohana. The lady really demands respect.

I am not a male fan but nevertheless, I enjoyed looking at the different swim suits and styles that also reflected the personalities of the wearers. But it was good that the episode provided a balance: They guys also looked great in their beach wear. I had to look twice before I recognized Byakuya!

That Ishida was not showing his chest was so much in character but still, he looked great, I think! Another reason might be that he didn`t want to show the Quincy scar around his heart.

I laughed when Renji explained that Unohana got Chad and Ishida to work. As Ishida said, Shinigami may be my enemies but I couldn`t refuse Unohana-san. And Hitsugaya worked as the ice machine!

I loved the sand sculpture contest, the way everybody was making an effort to make Ukitake comfortable and then the anti-hollow watermelons – that filler was great!

It wasn't too bad. I have to admit that the bit with the sand sculpture they built for Ukitake was hilarious, the way it looked like he was dead in a coffin and they were having a funeral. :guffaw:

The coffin Burial was funny as heck, I recall the swimsuit episode was actually a manga special.

Anyways, I loved Isane Kotetsu.......:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

I liked that they made Captain Hitsuguya abuse his zanpakto for ice, LOL

The only thing I don't get is this: Was everyone one at the beach in a gigai? Or did they visit the beach in their soul forms and just take off their shimigami uniforms off to cvhange into their beach wear? I ask this because some of them were using their zanpakto like Renji, Hitsuguya, and SoiFon.

Unless you can use a Zanpakto while in a Gigai, it seems like the Vizard do just that because I haven't seen any of them actually use soul candy or a badge to leave their faux bodies unless I missed something.
