Bleach - Anime Disscussion (Spoilers)

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

I think I'm most looking forward to seeing Lieutenant Hiragi (?) fight, myself. The guy with the 69 tatoo on his face. We've pretty much seen what the others can do thus far unless Kira has a Bankai in the works for us. We hardly know anything at all about Hiragi.

^Very true, I've been fascinated by that guy since he first appeared.

And with his Role Model relationship to one of the Vizard, I can't wait to see how his story plays out.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

I have been rewatching old episodes and one of them was the flashback story showing how he got the scars on his face. I agree, he is interesting. Hopefully we will not only learn about his powers but also more about what kind of person he is.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Spoiler for Bleach 218

Most of what Ayasegawa said was obvious but nevertheless, it was a good idea to explain everything properly and clearly, also because this prejudice against kidou powers especially under Kempachi needs to change.

Kira`s fight didn`t offer any surprises but I liked watching it. Kira is one of my favourite supporting characters especially because he is one of these people who are in a minority and do not belong to the eager bashful hack and slash variety in a battle. He is more of a thinker. He obviously has no trouble to use kidou powers and I also like his attitude towards battles and wars.

It seems next time it is Hisagi`s turn. I am looking forward to learn more about him.

I loved the whole fight and especially the explanation for the shape of Wabisike

There is a very gruesome reason for the shape of a hooked blade like Wabiske, I wonder what's it's Bankai form would take!

Aha! So that's what his curved sword is for. Ouch.

The aracanar in this episode looked like Birdman, mutated with Avenger, and on steroids. I was wondering when Falcon 7 was going to call.

The only thing I was disappointed was that we didn't get to his ressurection sequence, but at least they dispatched him quickly.

I thought you would like Wabiske!

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Hisagi was totally badass, and did not disappoint, except in how long it took him to figure out he needed his Shikai to beat down the Zechs Marquise cosplayer. He's now the 3rd soul reaper revealed to have a two handed zampakuto, those are my favorite kind.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

I think the fight between Findor and Hisagi was gripping to watch. It was very intense and visually stunning, too. I especially mean the fight on the bridge. It is a good thing that this is a replica and not the real town.

I like Hisagi`s Shikai. The chains and whirling blades are very interesting to watch and something different. The young Hisagi from the recent flashback chapter was a combination of the tough street fighter he needed to be in order to survive but who hasn`t lost the more sensitive side of his personality. This Hisagi shows more skill and more maturity but he is in essence the same. His weapon definitely fits to who and what he is.

The Shinigami shouldn`t win all the time and therefore the crashing pillar made the battle more realistic. In spite of Ayasegawa`s personality faults he is a character who really grew on me. I like the close friendship he shares with Ikkaku and I found his strong reaction very touching.

I am looking forward to next week.

Huh? EVERY zanpakuto is a two-handed weapon. Katanas are two-handed. If you mean splitting apart in two distinct weapons at Shikai, you're wrong. Hisagi's shikai is linked by a chain. The two captains that fougt the commander were said to be the only ones who had zanpakuto that split into two distinct weapons.

It was a damn cool fight though. I however don't get why Ikkaku didn't go bankai, the idiot.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Hmm...neither really. I mean that essentially he has two weapons. (holds something, bladed or blunted, in each hand without it being the same grip) That type of chain scythe is essentially two weapons, each with their own grips, they're just connected together with a chain. Essentially, it's a really difficult weapon to master as you think of it as two weapons instead of one, and you have a higher chance of hurting yourself with the other end than you would a sword. If you think of it as one like a katana you'll end up just as dead as the aracanar in this episode, in fact he made that very mistake actually. :p You have to teach yourself to be ambidextrous to wield any kind of weapon with your off hand if you want to do it effectively, whether it's connected with a chain or not.

I don't really know if any of that makes sense unless you've worked with weapons though. That's all kind of the basics for weaponry though. Personally, I'm still working on the staff which is the first one they start you on. The chain scythe isn't even on the radar there but I'd gather it's somewhat (read: Very loosely) like nunchucku which we do have.

I agree, it was cool. Impressive animations and great music, too. :)

It was mentioned in the past that Ikkaku keeps his Bankai secret for two reasons. First, he doesn`t want to be pestered that he should become a captain because he can do Bankai. Second, he thinks if it would become common knowledge that he can do Bankai he would no longer be able to serve under Kempachi and doing that is very important to him.

I always thought that both reasons are very weak excuses.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

A lot of shounen characters have pretty weak excuses for holding back and getting the crap kicked out of them for the first half of the fight. It's one aspect I don't like about the genre. It's really a cheap ploy to fill time or make you worried.

Of course, but if you're dead you can't be serving under Kenpachi anymore either.

He always seemed like a guy who wanted to continue fighting under Kenpachi for as long as he could, but eventually what he could do have to be done.

In fact, I think Kenpachi would kick his ass for not going properly all out. He'd be disappointing Kenpachi if he got his ass kicked and even died to what was essentially a weakling, but he "didn't want to risk not fighting with Kenpachi anymore" boohoo.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Ayasegawa certainly has better reasons to keep his powers a secret than Ikkaku does. Not that I agree with Ayasegawa`s decision either but at least I can understand his reasons and from his perspective he definitely has a point.

Ikkaku on the other hand is indeed what Ayasegawa described as the typical meat head Kempachi likes in his squad. His Bankai fits perfectly into squad 11 and I think the opposite would happen: Kempachi would be annoyed at Ikkaku because he kept his powers a secret. After what happened with the pillar I think Ikkaku should be more worried that Kempachi will find out the truth. And in this case I wouldn`t even blame Kempachi.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Spoilers for Bleach 220

I think the effect of the town starting to come back after the fall of the pillar was very well done. It seems the portable emergency pillars only stopped the process but didn`t reverse it. This should make the real town more vulnerable and the battle more interesting.

I felt very much with Ayasegawa who wanted to help his friend at any cost. That Kira used tranquilizer drops to stop him instead of a punch in this situation felt so much in character for him. Especially since the “New Captain” chapter I liked Kira more and more.

I agree with Iba: Ikkaku acted like an idiot. I always thought his reasons for keeping his Bankai secret are very weak. It is about time he changes his attitude. Hopefully Ayasegawa will learn the same lesson. If Ikkaku is really such a close friend Ayasegawa should not lose his friendship and respect because his true powers becoming common knowledge. And should Kenpachi laugh Ayasegawa should fight him. We would see how long he will laugh.

I am glad Captain Komamura got an opportunity to show what he can do and watching the two giants fight was impressive. I am sure Komamura heard the heated discussion between Iba and Ikkaku even if he didn`t want to admit it. I like it that both of them want to give Ikkaku a chance to think about what happened and to reveal his abilities himself. But hopefully Ikkaku is not so stupid not to have understood the warning behind this. If this happens again there will be severe consequences and rightly so!

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Yeah, Ikkaku just lost a bunch of points in my book for being a moron.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

I enjoyed this episode for the character progression of Ikkaku Madarame especially.

Part of me wonders why the Capt. Commander brought along a 3rd & 5th seat in Ikkaku and Yumichika Ayasegawa in the first place... I mean yeah they're 11th squad, but still, the way they've kept their true strengths hidden, you'd think they'd look to be outclassed for this battle (unless despite their attempts, their secrets are already known to a select few... Iba figured it out, why not Kenpachi himself?)

I'm glad Ikkaku got beat, because if this incident doesn't shake him out of his Fear of Getting promoted out of 11th squad, nothing will and his character is headed for a dead end (either in becoming boring, or just dying altogether.)

Hopefully if Ikkaku gets his head on straight after this, Yumichika Ayasegawa shouldn't be too far behind. At least I hope that's what takes place.

Pride goeth before a fall and all that, and that's exactly what happened.

The other thing I know is this... The Battle of Karakura Town, is going to take forever.
Ichigo & Company aren't even back yet, and the Vizards haven't event taken the field.

Not to Mention Urahara, Tessai, or Isshin.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

Yeah I'm wondering if this series is going to surpass Dragonball Z in episode count the way it's going. I really hope they end it (both the arc and the series) with someone taking out Aizen and leave it at that.

Re: Bleach - 206 (Spoilers)

As long as Bleach is not becoming stale, it can go on indefinitely. I mean, I certainly wouldn`t complain.

Yes, the battle takes time but so far I like the stories and the direction the series is taking.

It can even happen that Aizen wins after several seasons and then Bleach will be about a resistance movement trying to get rid of him. There are a few possibilities I can think of how things can develop in the far future. Who knows, maybe it will be even a good idea to overthrow the Royal Family? I sometimes wonder about that.
