Blakes 7 book - Standard By 7 press release

Fabulous! Really looking forward to this. The thread title made me do a double take, since Standard By 7 was the name of a zine my friend Ann O'Neill.

No conscious relation, though I'll have heard of it back in the day, and I wanted a title with Seven in it...

Is there some prior meaning to the phrase "standard by seven," such that two people might independently think of it? For that matter, what does it mean, period?

The speed of the Liberator was given in "standards" e.g standard by 12 was the Liberator running flat out and normal cruise was around standard by 6 but given teh subject 7 makes more sense.

Federation pursuit ships were rated on "time distortion" and were much slower than the Liberator.

Oddly once season 4 started they never refered to Standard again, so it was obviously just a perculiarity of the Liberator. Scorpio always travelled at Time Distort 'insert number here'

I always thought TD sounded a lot cooler, but Standard by Twelve really suited Zen's melodic delivery.

Yeah, the Scorpio was a Federation-technology ship, and even Dr Plaxton was originally a Federation scientist, so they used the Federation terminology
