Blade Runner 2

Katy Perry has already expressed great interest in playing Rachael, if they don't use Sean Young. In fact, that's how I first heard talk of there being a BLADE RUNNER sequel.

I thought Deckard was a Replicant? So if he aged normally then wouldn't Rachel age normally too?

^ The question of Deckard's status will absolutely never be answered. Not in a million years. Not even if BR2049 tries to do so. There's no proof one way or the other, and BR fans have already chosen sides (me, I prefer to believe he was NOT a replicant) and will not be shaken from it.

As for Sean Young, she will appear if the writers want her to. It doesn't even have to have anything to do with Rachael herself - whether Sean shows up as a human (possibly the 'original' version whom the replicant Rachael was based on), or another replicant, if she wants to appear, she will.

If we're wondering how long Rachael will live: It depends on which version of the original film you consider canon. In some versions, Rachael is a special case and nobody has any idea how long she'll live. IIRC, the Final Cut (which I consider definitive) gives absolutely no indication that Rachael is anything other than a standard replicant in terms of lifespan, in which case she will have been long dead as of BR2049.

Ah, I thought I read somewhere that someone had finally given a definitive yes.

I believe it is Ridley's current stance that Deckard is definitely a rep.

As for Sean Young, I don't know why you'd need "young CG" to show her. When was it ever stated (or even inferred) that reps do not age? They expire after four years, but that's not the same thing as never aging.

And Harrison Ford is equally insistant that Deckard is human.

Gotta go with HF on this one - the actor knows his character best. If he says Deckard's not a replicant, I think we can believe he is not one.

^ If HF was like that, he wouldn't care one way or the other. He has strong enough opinions on Deckard's status that I think we can trust him.

The writers, director, and actor all have (sometimes contradictory) opinions on the matter. I personally choose to decide based on the film as presented rather than listening to any of them. :)

I threw this together using the most flattering photo of Sean Young that I could find -- just to give a general approximation of her appearing in Blade Runner 2.

By the way ...

I see Deckard as being Human. Also, I prefer the original, theatric release to any other version. In my opinion, it's the best and most descriptive of how the characters should be interpreted, whether they were intended to be that way, or not.

If Deckard were a replicant, there's no reason he shouldn't also be a member of the Illuminati because that requires some next level conspiracies to work.
