Blade Runner #1 sci-fi movie

from WENN & IMDb.COM

Blade Runner has been named the best sci-fi movie of all time in a new online poll.

The futuristic film, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer, tops a list compiled by editors at Moviefone.com - beating all the Star Wars, Alien, and Terminator movies hands down.

Moviefone editors explain their choice, "A box office dud at the time of its release, this movie has undergone more facelifts than Joan Rivers. Regardless, it's a dark future with film noir elements dripping from every pore."

The poll also throws down the gauntlet for movie makers to create a new contender - none of the top 25 was made in the 21st Century.

The top ten is as follows:

Blade Runner, 1982

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980

Aliens, 1986

Star Wars: A New Hope, 1977

The Day the Earth Stood Still, 1951

The Matrix, 1999

Terminator 2, Judgement Day, 1991

The Thing, 1982

Alien, 1979

Forbidden Planet, 1956.

Blade Runner??? Saw it once. Didn't much care for it. Lots more much worth contenders for the #1 spot.

blade runner is one piece of boring sh*t
This list never changes, it is always the same. Star Wars Episode 3 - Revenge Of The Sith could be on the list, as well as Star Trek First Contact

Blade Runner is my favorite film of all time, so I find myself in agreement with this poll in that point at least, but the lack of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Soylent Green, and any of the Tarkovsky science fiction films leaves this list woefully incomplete. But, being an online opinion poll (or is it--do you have a link to the original article?), films like The Matrix, Star Wars, and Terminator 2 will naturally float to the top of any list like this.

What the fuck? Close Encounters of the Third Kind is far more masterfully made than Blade Runner can lay any claim to being. I like Blade Runner but it's extemely overrated. And what the fuck is the Matrix, Aliens and T2 doing there when CE3K is missing? Fucking bullshit!

The only reason such lists are made and published is to get people up in arms and arguing about the subject. Hopefully resulting in those people using said web site. :p

Well, I have no problem with Blade Runner being considered the top sci-fi film ever, I would agree.

The list as a whole is terrible. No 2001!

Strange list in terms of omissions. I do agree, however, that Blade Runner is one of the top science fiction movies of all times. IMHO it's a timeless masterpiece not only of science fiction but also film making in general.

However, my personal number one is probably 2001. That, for me, remains THE science fiction movie. It's a true work of art and as perfect as a film could ever hope to be in my opinion. Also a timeless classic. Not having that on the list is criminal, if you ask me.

Yea, the omission of 2001 is a big one, but any list that has "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "The Thing" and "Forbidden Planet" all in the top ten can't be too bad.

An online poll, like all polls that don't use a Simple Random Sample, is statistically meaningless.

This is a great pot-boiler on the Trek board. Every time there is any kind of vote, Blade Runner comes somewhere in the top 20 which sparks off a long string of 'I hate that film' posts, which then fizzles out. Until the next time it gets voted for again.

I can say that I generally agree with the list - I've seen nine of the ten (not Forbidden Planet) and am a fan of all nine of them.

I can agree that 2001 might ought to have been on the list - on the other hand, Close Encounters does for me (puts me to sleep) the way that others here have said Blade Runner does for them. The difference is, Blade Runner is one of the most influential movies ever made, certainly in the scifi genre.

That's a surprisingly decent list. Cept for The Matrix, boot that sucka! :rommie:
Yea, the omission of 2001 is a big one,

Yes, add that at #2.

Also, no way Aliens beats Alien. Right positions, but swap em.

2001
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Forbidden Planet
Planet of the Apes
The Time Machine
Alien
Metropolis
BladeRunner
Aliens
The Day the Earth Stood Still

Better.
