Spoilers Black Mirror - Season 5

Yeah, but she didn’t leave the pop music sphere, just broadened her audience from kids to all pop music fans. Not like the record company wasn’t on board for that.

One late observation to the episode. The last part reminded me of a Nickelodeon show. Like, the way they rescued Ashley O is the way they’d rescue Alex Mack.
I think she switched labels.

When she tells them she wants to play punk covers of Nine Inch Nails they will throw her out on the street.
Will they? She's explored a wide range of genres from what I understand. And in the episode the pop songs her character wrote were all Nine Inch Nails songs. So in universe she was covering herself.
Point is musicians do change and experiment in their careers. And if they are big enough the record company just lets them be artists. Sgt Pepper is a very different album than Introducing the Beatles.

Sgt Pepper was still catchy, hooky, and aimed at the same audience. If Miley wanted to shift to some other style that would still make millions of dollars they’d be on board. Some niche genre, not so much.

It’s like in Barton Fink. “Do you think you’re (Barton) the only one who can give me that Barton Fink feel?!”

They’d find some new hot 20 year old who can give them the same thing.

Also the 60s had a very different record industry. Most pop bands still wrote their songs and played their instruments.

I liked the Miley episode. And who better to portray a person in that situation?
Striking Vipers asked some uncomfortable questions but is a very good episode.
Smithereens was a good episode but odd. Not really horror, not really sci-fi. Worth watching but left me feeling a little flat.

My only complaint so far is "Why only three episodes?"

Of course originally each series of Black Mirror was only 3 episodes long ;)

I didn't mind this season, and quite liked that the really dark nihilism of previous seasons wasn't anywhere to be seen.

Striking Vipers was completely unexpected, and yes a little uncomfortable. Had a lot to say about how relationships may evolve in future, and the fantasy element that people get into even now online. Not the Falcon/Mantis MCU crossover event you might have expected!

Smithereens was brilliantly acted but really wasn't much more than a 3 minute "don't text and drive!" public information film stretched out to an hour. I appreciate it had something interesting to say about how much information social media accounts have on us, but again that could have been done much quicker. Also whilst BM episodes haven't always had a speculative element, this wasn't anything remotely futuristic, or even a 'tech we might have tomorrow' kinda thing.

Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too took a while to warm up but I loved it by the end. The sweary Ashley Too deserves her own spinoff series. I really didn't know where this was going originally (I genuinely thought the dad was going to integrate Ashley Too's cpu into his mouse hunter!) I thought Miley Cyrus was very good.

Not sure whether Striking Vipers or Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too was my favourite, but Smithereens was my least favourite.

This thread's remined me I still need to watch Bandersnatch!

Details, details...

Get to it already! I think it's a brilliant episode and better than all three episodes of season 5. But then I'm also a sucker for "Choose Your Own Adventure" style of storytelling and I'm especially a sucker for any episode that directly references one of my all time favorite albums (Tangerine Dream's Phaedra).

OK OK I just watched season 1 episode 1 .. Black Mirror

are they all going to be that errrrrrrr evil if you will? I am starting episode 2 season 1

I know nothing about these just don't be marathon material please at a slow pace. ---- :) I had to search to find this thread here. :)

I found that I only could watch one at a time because it gave me lots to think for days. So definitely not binge material.

They are not all like episode 1 but then they often are unusual and also dark. Each episode is very different so even if you don't like one, just try the next. I love that when going in you have no idea what is about to happen and then it reveals more and more. Enjoy!

I watched the second episode and yeah need a break with things to think about :)

entertaining and real really kind of close to what is possible and what is ... --- nice stuff maybe I could catch up to season five in a few weeks ---

mostly enjoyed...lots

feels strange the white bear justice facility OMG I have experienced things at that level.. really ... just like day after day in a state psychiatric facility it is such flash backs for me.. that it is like that .. OMG starts to get too nerve racking and wow... white bear justice OMG wow.. it is really some kind of twisted mind cluster that worked that out blew my mind.. success at it. just in it.

I want to watch more but no that was like an OD on insanity --- words without words within

the edginess going on in these is really intense just like "what do I do now" syndrome and picking the wrong thing to do....

Episode 1 is literally the worst episode of the series. One of the only three I would not watch again.
I had never continued past it because of how abhorrent I found that episode until The McCallister came out. I watched that one and am considering giving the series another chance.

You should, there are so many good episodes left.
And I concur that the first episode was the worst so keep that in mind.

I don't know best worst with the first episode .. it is very very edgy and such very tense like all the episodes just more radical in a way --- I like that we saw the people watching the scene rather then the scene that was just acting and all but must of been a difficult act to pull off... In a way. still the white bear justice park is like OMG what.. it is like the states I have been in so it is really relatable to me
