It would be unnecessary to mention an author's whiteness in a story like this. The media always specifies when people are black in stories such as this as some kind of subtle implication that racial discrimination was involved. It's an attempt to stir shit up and make things into bigger deals than they are.

I think Harlan Ellison just likes to file lawsuits against companies that he doesn't like for whatever reason, and because he is the little guy against the big companies, juries often find in his favour.

Interesting. I'd never even heard of this. Reminds me of the movie "Hoosiers." It was based on the life of a relative of mine(the coach who was played by Gene Hackman), but they ended up changing enough stuff that they didn't have to pay him. Still, it gave him a lot of publicity at the time and we all went to the theater to see it. He got an autobiography deal out of it at least, and Bush Sr. Invited him to the White House.

I'd be interesting in reading that book about your relative. "Hoosiers" is one of my all-time favorite movies, in large part because of the character of Norman Dale.

Was thinking the exact same thing. It is outstanding that justice has been served, but what does it matter what color the author's skin is?

Amazon.com has the book but it's out of print. While the case was dismissed a long time ago but I am still curious about the contents of the book that the W. Brothers allegedly plagiarized from. From reviews it seems the only similarities are very very superficial. One reviewer went as far as saying that Sophia should be put in jail for the frivolous lawsuit.
