Bizarre 1x07 preview...

Really? Because a thirty minute timeloop does not account for the mad raves they appear to be having on the ship. Looks like something much more than a timeloop going on to me...
Maybe they were having a party when the time loops started.

Or maybe it's like that one episode of SG1 when O'Neill and Teal'c are caught in the time loop and they decide to do shenanigans for a while because they know it will reset anyway.

Or maybe we should just wait for Sunday to find out.

Actually, their shenanigans are only part of a brief sequence near the end of the episode, and that was only done because the episode itself came in severely under time requirements.

The ops officer or Michael Burnham? Who get an intro as " Michael Burnham the first mutineer" in almost every episode.
Obviously tomalak301 must be referring to Ops officer Lt. j.g. Joann Owosekun (played by Oyin Oladejo), who we've seen a number of times but know nothing about. Despite being a bridge officer, she's clearly not a main character, but if the series goes on long enough, we'll probably learn more about these peripheral characters.

My guess is the purple balls induce some kind of hallucination effect (like the rave party perhaps, as there are scenes with purple lighting). Of course it could also be that Federation, or Starfleet specific shipboard parties have a tendency to move around a bit in terms of what they emulate. In the 2250s it was the 1970s. In the 2260s it became the 1960s. The 2270s weirded everyone out because the parties were from the 2080s, and no one talks about that anymore.

The TNG time loop episode where they play poker is one of my favorites. Still, a tad early for that. Have to see it before I judge it.

There's nothing in the episode preview that looks like a time loop plot. There is one sentence from Stamets saying at some point in the show that they are in a thirty minute time loop.

What the rest of the trailer shows is the crew of Discovery partying, making out and shooting each other. Oh, and Harry Mudd suggesting that someone - probably Burnham, since she's the show's protagonist - make themselves "at home - I have," as if they've found themselves on a strange ship.

Hmm.
