Bird of Prey (No, not that one!)

This was actually a sketch I did a few years ago, but I finally scanned it in, cleaned it up a bit, and experimented with coloring it. I think it turned out pretty good in the end.

For those that don't know, this is the Boeing Bird of Prey technology demonstrator aircraft. It was named "Bird of Prey" because of its slight resemblance to the Klingon BoP. I attended the ceremony when it was unveiled in 2002.

Not a bad rendition of the original, which can be found here.

I've always liked your cartoon character ships. :D

Hey, BJ... did you work on this thing? I don't spend much time working on airframes (though I'd rather be doing that than the "plumbing" inside, which is what I do these days!). If you're getting to work on that sort of thing... I'm jealous! ;)

Considering it first flew in 1996, and I didn't start working for Boeing until 1997, no I didn't get to design any of it. Though I did get to work for the Phantom Works in St. Louis for several years before my move to Huntsville last year.

I just think it's cool that Boeing themselves called it "Bird of Prey" after the Star Trek ship. :D

Bit of an update, although in an entirely different style!

I've been wanting to do this for a while due to the lack of decent (or accurate) references of this aircraft. Mine may not be 100% accurate either, but it's better than what's out there.

Frik! Solid work. Love the stealth fighter, and the bird of prey I've seen before. Always funny. :)
