Biggest insulting slap-in-the-face episode for fans?

I don't get people who are trying to say that the new movie's going to suck. I we have over a year before it comes out, and we don't even know what it will be about yet.
Personally, I'm actually really excited for it mostly due to the people involved.
Abrams: Lost and Alias are two of my favorite shows, and I liked Six Degrees and MI:III
Kurtz and Orci: Liked The Island and Transformers
Quinto: Heroes is one of my favorite shows
Cho: Like Harold and Kumar
Morrison: House is another of my favorite shows
Urban: LOTR need I say any more

So yeah, I'm incredibly excited about it, but mostly because of the people involved. But it being Trek deffinitely does help alot.

Hey I don't need to take a leak on electric fence to know that I wouldn't like it very much.
Enough information has been leaked; information that doesn't sound very appealing to me. I don't need to go see it to find out I wouldn't like it.
I'm treating this as if it didn't have Star Trek in the title.
I'm also treating this like I treat any other remake.
I'm kinda feeling this way too.

I personally think it's too soon for Trek to make a comeback. I'm also not thrilled that the best idea for a new Trek film is a prequel/remake again.

I don't see anybody beyond die hard Trek fans asking for this film. However, all of this depends on what the first trailer looks like. Until then, I just don't feel the excitement for this project.

^^ Valid concerns.

My primary cause for optimism comes from the fact that Berman/Braga won't be anywhere near it. Nemesis was a mess, Enterprise wasn't much better, and their involvement with Trek was way beyond its shelf-life.

Whether it's too early for Trek to come back, I'm not too sure. A different take on things may be just what's needed to prove that there's still life in the franchise. Alternatively, if it bombs, we can probably write off seeing any new Star Trek for another decade. Personally, I'm hoping for the former. Prove that there's still an audience, then start thinking about where to take the franchise next on the smaller screen. At the end of this season, we're going to be pretty devoid of any decent space-based science fiction. Trek could be ideally placed to make a return.

I guess that were we differ, unfortunately.

I really don't miss space based sci-fi. I'm just not as die hard a sci-fi fan as most here. While I like some of it, others I can do without.

However, I can admit that's just me and not inclusive of everybody else.

After seeing so many shows cancelled, I must admit, my preferences have shifted heavily in recent years. I watch far more drama these days than I ever used to.

Having said that though, I'd still like a few decent alternatives to break the monotony :)

Our thoughts are one. :borg:

^^ It's all the networks' fault. Those bastards are assimilating us FFS!

Soon we'll all be watching reality rubbish! That's their grand masterplan. Huge ratings at a low cost, they'll be loving it!

Yes, I Love New York on VH-1 is a guilty pleasure of mine. :alienblush:

Yeah, but at least we still have plenty of non-space based sci-fi shows, like Doctor Who, Stargate: Atlantis, Heroes, Lost ect. Unless you don't like those shows, because then there really isn't much other sci-fi.

^^ I'd class Atlantis as space-based to be honest, and whilst it's alright, it's not brilliant.

Got nothing against Heroes and Lost, enjoy them both, but from memory I think we've had outstanding space-based shows for nigh on the last couple of decades.

Denouncing something before you've even seen it is somewhat childish IMO.

Yea, agreed. That's why before an election, I always travel into the future to see what does happen - and then travel back and cast my vote in the election. Without that it would be foolish to even try to decide who you can vote for, because you don't know what it will be actually like.

^^ Fine argument, but for the fact you elected Bush twice, thereby proving that you don't learn from experience anyway.

But seriously, congratulations on your 'taken out of context' award.

What space based sci-fi shows would you call outstanding?

See seasons one and two of Battlestar Galactica.

Have we even had any non-trek space based sci-fi other than the SGs, BSG, Andromeda and Farscape during the in the past 10 years?

New or old?

I can tell you right now, NuBSG bores the hell out of me. I tried to watch it and I fall asleep every time. Nothing against anybody that does, more power too you if you do but it's not my cup of tea.

New Flash Gordon!

Over the past couple of decades;

TNG
DS9
B5
Farscape
Firefly
nuBSG

I'm reluctant to say SG1. When it was good, it was pretty good, but I wouldn't call it outstanding. It's been enough while there might not have been anything else on, but compared to the likes of those mentioned above, it's the weakest link for sure.
