Biggest insulting slap-in-the-face episode for fans?

^ Wow, decompiler! Your choices are exactly the same as mine! All of those eps you mention are inexcusable.

All of this talk above, about UPN not wanting VOY to have arcs for fear of alienating the casual fans, leads me to believe that Paramount should have simply stopped bothering to try and recruit the non-fans a long time ago. Star Trek, and its fans, is so ingrained in its ways by now. It's nearly impossible to try and attract a new audience these days. Hell, it can barely keep hold of the fans it already has. ENT lost tonnes of ST fans, even hardcore Trekkies!

The new film, for all their trying to finally win over the casuals, might not succeed. I don't think we'll be seeing a 'Voyage Home', 'TNG', or 'First Contact' level of crossover mainstream popularity ever again. It's too late for that.

Abrams' bastard Trek is not only a slap in my face, it's a kick in my balls. But that's just one fans opinion.

For someone who has no idea what this film is about, you seem pretty sure of yourself. As for myself, I hope the new Trek film slaps and kicks hard!

So it's alright for you to be positive with the info that has been released so far, but it's not ok for me to be negative from that very same info we've heard.

Well, I'm going to continue to be negative about this film just as much as you will continue to say how great a guy Abrams is. That is my right. freedom of speech and all that you know.

I've never talked about how "great a guy" he is. Freedom of speech does not equate freedom from consequence.

Freedom of speech also doesn't preclude you from being wrong.

Denouncing something before you've even seen it is somewhat childish IMO.

Hey I don't need to take a leak on electric fence to know that I wouldn't like it very much.
Enough information has been leaked; information that doesn't sound very appealing to me. I don't need to go see it to find out I wouldn't like it.
I'm treating this as if it didn't have Star Trek in the title.
I'm also treating this like I treat any other remake.

Why? Because I have a dissenting opinion?.
It's perfectly ok for Trek fans to have different views, you know.

Back in the day, fans went mental when they found out that they were making Star Trek: The Next Generation, and that Kirk, Spock, McCoy et al wouldn't feature. Guess what, it went on to become one of the most iconic shows of the past couple of decades, and achieved the near impossible in taking Trek mainstream.

Battlestar Galactica, lambasted by fans ahead of the mini series when they discovered that it was going to be a 'reboot'. Guess what, it's surpassed the original in every way measurable.

Expressing concern is one thing, proclaiming the result as a matter of fact ahead of time is just an exercise in narrow-mindedness.

I'm not proclaiming a result, I'm expressing my extreme disappointment in an "idea". I will concede that I do hope it bombs worse then Nemesis.

I made my points and observations about this film pretty concisely in this thread.

I won't bore or annoy you by repeating myself in every conceivable forum like *ahem* "some" people.

Proclaiming something as 'Bastard Trek', says to me that you've pretty much made up your mind on what the final article is likely to be. It also paints you into a corner as far as the extent of your negativity. Like I said, raise concerns, fine, to label something as above, and then exacerbate it further by stating that you're hoping for it to fail to prove yourself right? Sorry, but that's beyond childish, it's sad.

No, I just want it to fail so badly that it will be a big punch in the stomach of those who are already acting as if this movie will be the biggest thing since Star Wars.

Just trying to balance out the extreme optimism with some negativity. You are getting the same info I do, and already you are putting it on a pedastal.
