Biggest insulting slap-in-the-face episode for fans?

For me, perhaps the episodes which felt most like they rewarded my years of loyal watching of the Trekverse with a big punch in the face were 'Fury', 'Endgame', and 'These Are The Voyages'.

'Fury' comes to mind because it utterly raped the character of Kes. Why was she suddenly angry and bitter at the crew of Voyager upon her return when she had never demonstrated this behaviour previously?

'Endgame' because it just felt like the producers didn't care any more, and were too busy working on getting ENT started. Out of the blue characterisations like the ridiculous Chakotay/Seven pairing felt like they were just taking the piss.

'These Are the Voyages' perhaps is now the most infamous episode in Trek history. Berman's notorious promise that it would be a valentine to the fans is now a catchphrase among fandom. Instead of having a sendoff for the ENT crew, they turned it into a TNG episode (even getting the details for that show wrong in the process).

What do you think are the biggest insults to fandom?

Fury didn't bother me.

Engame ended too abruptly for my tastes. I would have liked to have seen them actually reach Earth.

As far as These Are the Voyages..., I totally agree. That was a terrible way to end the series.

^ Oh yes. Forget about that one! Nemesis broke the 'even-numbered movies =good, odd-numbered ones= bad' curse, it was so horrid!

XI had better break it too or else there wont be an XII...

Seeing the names of Fred Freiberger, Harve Bennett, Leonard Nimoy, Rick Berman and J.J. Abrams under the "Executive Producer" credit.

I hate to get on the bandwagon, but TATV. If it wasn't the last episode, I wouldn't feel as strongly about it. There were even episodes that I thought we much worse.

"These Are The Voyages". Hands down. That episode made me just stare at the screen in shock.

Spock's brain had to be the most insulting episode. Spock talking McCoy through surgically re=attaching his brain and the remote controlled spock body was truly bad.

can't remember the name right now :brickwall:
but the VOY episode where Paris and Janeway do it as alien salamanders!
:cardie: :wtf:

Let He Who is Without Sin. I still wonder why a Changeling impersonated Worf for just this one episode.

Nearly spoilt for choice with this one;

Star Trek V
Nemesis
Endgame
These are the Voyages

For me, Endgame. A lame end to a lame series. They should have either have brought them back to Earth a couple of episodes before the end of the series, or at the very least brought them home early in the finale. Having them pop back into the AQ as the screen fades to black? Fcuking stupid.

That would be Threshold.. one of the most infamous Trek episodes ever

For me it would be either Nemesis or Endgame.. i didn't care much for Enterprise after season 2 so having this garbage as the final episode didn't affect me this much.

Nemesis was just an utter mess.. it shows what happens when actors get too much power in the production process and when you compromise on almost anything related to the story. It was inexcusable.

As to Endgame.. they break through the Borg Sphere, are greeted by the fleet and we see Earth.. roll credits.. i just sat there and thought "That's it?" However it was exemplary of the entire show.. too much flash and too little substance.
At least do a mini-arc for 5 or so episodes so you have a few left to show how the crew re-adjusts to the Federation.
This was just like a tease girl leaving you out to dry after she got you hot.

Another vote for Endgame. I liked TATV because I got what they were trying to do (both in front of and behind the camera), and to be honest I've blocked episodes like Fury and Threshold from my mind. But at least TATV had some sort of proper conclusion with Archer about to give his speech followed by the "these are the voyages" montage at the end. Endgame was the conclusion of a 7-year series ... but it just ... ended. No scenes of the ship returning home, no suggestion of what happened to the crew. Yes, TATV didn't do a lot of that either, but at least it ENDED, as opposed to Endgame just whimpering away to nothing.

I also place a lot of the blame for Enterprise's rejection on this episode because a lot of people were turned against Enterprise long before that show aired, and one of the reasons for it was the fact it was done by the same production regime that did Endgame. There was another thread asking us to name the moment/episode that "killed" the Trek franchise, and I voted for Endgame.

(That said, even Endgame was a much better episode than TNG's infamous "Shades of Grey", but back in 1989 the idea of a "clip show" was somewhat standard practice so I couldn't really call it a "slap in the face" episode.)

Cheers

Alex
