Biggest insulting slap-in-the-face episode for fans?

jimbtnp2, If you're going to argue the merits of what constitutes good or bad Star Trek, you're probably best doing so by not completely invalidating your own credibility beforehand by championing the likes of Nemesis or Code of Honour, both of which were truly woeful on practically every scale imaginable.

"Code of Honor" was hands down the worse mose racist piece of crap ever, even the actors won't talk about it. Roddenberry was still alive and approved it. If he was still alive, I'd thank him for Trek and then kick him in the balls for "Code of Honor".

It surely slapped us black fans in the face, didn't it? As much as I dislike Voyager, I give the show a lot of credit for countering that nonsense with Tuvok.

I don;t get this at all, I liked code of honor

what exactly is the beef?

If you don't get it you won't get it. All I can say is, the first time Trek gives us a significant look at black aliens, they just happen to be little more than sterotypical backwards-ass ooga-booga savages who immediately kidnap the whitest woman on the ship. Of course, we got in Worf, the first significant black Klingon, the most animalistic, least sophisticated Klingon up to that time.

I think that's ridiculous - stereo typical? what were they selling crack and singing rap? Were they thugs and convicts - that's Hollywood stereo typical
A bunch of savages? why because they didn;t drink earl grey and act like every other southern californian - um i mean alien
I've never envisioned blacks as wearing turbins, maybe the arabs and siks should complain - this Hyper PC looking for a something to whine about attitude is ridiculous

don;t like the episode fine... racist? ridiculous

lighten up

sorry bud, you don;t get it, what's your favorite TNG Inner Light? please, I'd take home soil over that

I do believe you would.....

The Measure of a Man, The Offspring, obvious choices, Chain of Command, The Drumhead, Frame of Mind.

Having said that though, there's little wrong with The Inner Light either.

Let me guess, you'd rather have The Dauphin or Shades of Gray right?

"The Inner Light" is astonishingly overrated but it is still far, far, far superior to Nemesis. A steaming pile of partially digested Denebian slime devil entrails is superior to "Code of Honor," but not by much.

Honestly?

Any moment in any Trek series, and TNG is by far the guiltiest of the pack, when someone sticks their nose in the air and observes snootily that mankind has "evolved" beyond religion.

I was seven years old when TNG premiered and even I knew a load of horse dung when I heard it. That, my friends, was a slap in the face to anyone who's not an atheist. Even those who don't subscribe to any organized religion, but have faith in something, or have some sort of spirituality, were insulted by this preposterous supposition.

It's not for me to say whether mankind would be better off without faith in higher beings, but it wasn't for Roddenberry to say, either. That really turned me off to TNG.

IMO Nemesis would be a perfect example of why somebody who is doing Trek should have at least a passing familiarity with the franchise. I mean when the fucking director doesn't even know that Geordi is a human, you have to know that there is no way he's going to be a able to do a decent Star Trek anything.

really? B&B did and they destroyed trek

talent is talent and in what way did your comments show on the big screen? was geordi referenced as an Alien?
Yeah, but B&B destroyed Trek by staying to true what Trek was at the time. As for what I said about Stuart Baird, I've heard that mentioned in about 5 or 6 different articles.
TBH, I really didn't get what was bad about CoH at first, but then I read about it on Memory Alpha, and I can deffinitely see the racism in it quite clearly now. Coming to this realization has certainly lowered my already fairly low opinion of the episode even more.

If you're anything to go by, that's the least of their problems. :brickwall:

I don't think they really ever did. Not even in "who watches the watchers". I always found that complaint to be quite odd , even making it into the "Nitpicker's guide".
I mean what do you expect them to do? Pray before dinner?
We had Joseph Sisko quote from the Bible, Data mention a Hindu holiday and Picard mentioning people still believe in the Afterlife. Sure, the future people don't seem as religious as the people now, but that's to be expected.

I'm no Atheist and I never felt insulted in the slightest.

Sorry, that crosses the line. Just put a poster on ignore if you can't ignore them.

Why did you ask the question if you're going to take issue with the answer? Even the actors themselves are ashamed of it due to the exact reasons Brutal stated.

I love how his idea of racist caricature goes back about twenty years, tops. Somebody needs to show him a Tarzan movie or a minstrel show.

Kids today, no sense of history...

if you saw the episode multiple times and didn't see the racism in it - well that speaks for itself, it doesn't

as far as Baird not knowing ST i agree, but you missed the point, you say Baird thought Geordi was an alien, I asked where do you see that coming across IN the film, and you quote some interviews in which they had to clarify it to him on the set? Why would you care as a movie viewer if it doesn't come across that way in the movie?

Now it DOES come across in most Berman ST that HE doesn't get trek, good story teling or scifi - fortunately he had less influence on Nemesis
