Personally, I'd say they were all (well, except for Escape From L.A.) entirely too badass, but I'd probably go with Escape From NY.

I mean, come on--wouldn't it be absolutely perfect as a video game? I'd much rather see that than to ever see it be remade. You could never capture the accidental goofy greatness of the original.

I did play the game the game (on the spectrum) back in the day. It wasn't great unfortunately. It could have done with a decent game made of it

Yes, most certainly. For some reason, I still actually have a vivid memory of the first time I saw someone playing that game and saying "Oh, shit! That's the guy from Big Trouble in Little China!" and then promptly being told to shut up...

Somebody probably already does. Everything gets remade or rehashed now days. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear that a remake has been in the works, or in "development hell" for a while now.

I concur, The Thing is definitely my favourite Carpenter/Russell film.

This one is great too, though. I've only seen it once, many years ago. I should really try to re-watch it one of these days -- it was terrific fun.

Didn't it get a lot of complaints of racism when it came out? (I'm too young to remember.) It seemed to go over a lot of people's heads that Jack Burton was the sidekick in the whole thing.

Yeah, some people miss the whole point of the movie, including Good Will Riker in some of his posts around here (speaking of GWR, I haven't seen him post in quite a while).

I think Carpenter mentioned it was role reversal, the lead acted like the sidekick and the sidekick acted like the lead.

A classic movie that was a very early DVD purchase for me. Absolutely love that style of 80's goofy yet taking itself seriously and then everyone just forgetting about the weirdness and getting on with their lives.

Yeah, Big Trouble, Ghostbusters, Buckaroo Banzai, The Golden Child, I love those.

Ever see The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou? It's sort of a modern homage to these kind of movies.
