Big Trouble in Little China

Who else liked The Guardian? he's that ugly yet funny floating critter with eyes all over it's head, who thinks he looks like Edward G. Robinson? the gangster guy that goes "NAHHH SEE NAHH".

The Wild-Man looks like a mentally retarded mogoloid wookie and anyone else thought Thunder looked like a Garbage Pail Kid before he was gonna explode? and was that salad he blew out of his body?

I love the part where he's got lipstick all over his mouth (and doesn't know it) but is still firing off wisecrack after wisecrack. Hilarious!

Best Kurt Russell/John Carpenter collaboration?

Personally, I'd say they were all (well, except for Escape From L.A.) entirely too badass, but I'd probably go with Escape From NY.

All this quoting is making me think how much awesome, awesome is this movie.

I know a lot lines by heart, too...but in the Italian dubbing!

Who want to guess what is this?

Agli eserciti passati e alle battaglie che hanno vinto.
Che gli eserciti futuri non debbano mai combatterne.
E che le ali della liberta' non perdano mai le piume.

:D

I've only seen this movie a couple of times---not enough to make it quotable---but I like it.

Any time I've got to fix/adjust some of the equipment at work,I find myself muttering..."This is going to take crackerjack timing,Kwan".
Cue the guys looking around for this mysterious Kwan guy...

you know im surprised they never made a sequel to it, ending was a little cliche, but still somewhat a cliffhanger. And do you guys think the creators of Mortal Kombat ripped off Raiden from the electric guy with the big bamboo hat in this movie?

"You know what ol' Jack Burton always says..."
"Who's Jack Burton?"
"Me!"

Quick, what's the name of his rig in the movie??* If you know, you're a real BTILC fan. My only complaint about this movie is that it's not a video game and it SO DESERVES TO BE!! I mean, come on--wouldn't it be absolutely perfect as a video game? I'd much rather see that than to ever see it be remade. You could never capture the accidental goofy greatness of the original.

*The Porkchop Express, of course!

I did play the game the game (on the spectrum) back in the day. It wasn't great unfortunately. It could have done with a decent game made of it:)

I'm guessing it's a rendering of:

Wang Chi: Here's to the Army and Navy and the battles they have won; here's to America's colors, the colors that never run.
Jack Burton: May the wings of liberty never lose a feather.

And do you guys think the creators of Mortal Kombat ripped off Raiden from the electric guy with the big bamboo hat in this movie?

I always thought so! I mean he's the exact same guy!

Yes, most certainly. For some reason, I still actually have a vivid memory of the first time I saw someone playing that game and saying "Oh, shit! That's the guy from Big Trouble in Little China!" and then promptly being told to shut up...

i remember i met james hong for the first time back in 1997 at ComiCon, and told him i loved his work in big trouble in little china, and also that episode of Seinfeld. "Seinfeld, 4!"

I like the movie but I wish people wouldn't mention it, because sooner or later some schmuck will wanna remake it.

Somebody probably already does. Everything gets remade or rehashed now days. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear that a remake has been in the works, or in "development hell" for a while now.

I quite like this movie so naturally very few else that I know do  Love that the "hero" is actually the sidekick.

The Thing is their best collaboration in my opinion.

I concur, The Thing is definitely my favourite Carpenter/Russell film.

This one is great too, though. I've only seen it once, many years ago. I should really try to re-watch it one of these days -- it was terrific fun.

Didn't it get a lot of complaints of racism when it came out? (I'm too young to remember.) It seemed to go over a lot of people's heads that Jack Burton was the sidekick in the whole thing.
Yeah, some people miss the whole point of the movie, including Good Will Riker in some of his posts around here (speaking of GWR, I haven't seen him post in quite a while).

I think Carpenter mentioned it was role reversal, the lead acted like the sidekick and the sidekick acted like the lead.

A classic movie that was a very early DVD purchase for me. Absolutely love that style of 80's goofy yet taking itself seriously and then everyone just forgetting about the weirdness and getting on with their lives.

Yeah, Big Trouble, Ghostbusters, Buckaroo Banzai, The Golden Child, I love those.

Ever see The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou? It's sort of a modern homage to these kind of movies.
