Big Love - S4

ALF

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Spoilers, spoilers.

Big Love was on last night again finally and it was Big. There was lots of love. I friggin' love this series. Is anyone with me? Why is there no thread about this? Well, there is now.

There was some flax about the new intro... but with so many things fundamentally changed about the show it seems appropriate to me.

And I love the casino. That's going to make for some interesting plots.

Very unclear about Hannah (name?) however. She's in the opening credits but I didn't see her in the first scene. Or was that Don's wife? I couldn't make the woman out. Sitting across from Margene.

The Christian rock thing was awesome. Lois and her birds were awesome. This season is going to be amazing.

Really? Over 3000 active members and no one has an opinion on the Big Love season 4 premiere?

I saw the season 4 premeire and liked it-weekend at Roman's  The casino plot could be interesting, but the Ben as the Christian rock guy was totally out of left field...I don't remember in the past three seasons him showing an interest in music

Gonna watch tonight too! :techman:

thanks for reminding me to move big love s3 up on my netflix queue!

We should have an S3 thread. There's some great stuff shaping up - wtf is up with Joey's alliance with the odious Alby Grant? It's been so long that I forgot how that happened - did Roman threaten to dispose of crazy Wanda and Joey helped Alby in his coup to stop Roman? I should go find an episode synopsis and get up to speed.

The premiere was good, the new opening threw me for a minute there. It's a good show.

These episodes are very lean... there isn't much filler in them. Last night's episode was terrific. Not enough of the new casino story and I need more of Nikki's daughter... but it is clear that they are sending off
Sarah shortly into the night without any polygamy. I like her as a character, but I don't think the show will change too much without her.

I love Big Love, but currently am too poor to have HBO. I'm having to wait for DVD. I hate being behind, especially with the excellent spoiler I accidentally came across on TWOP.

Ben and Margene are going to do the deed. Should make for interesting story when Bill finds out.

^ yes, I heard about that. I heard that the actress had a hard time actually performing that scene. It's going to be a huge deal this season!

Funny, I thought that was one of those HBO McGuffins that never pay off.

I'm not surprised to hear that she did. Just because it's very topical and, IMO, a realistic possibility in a polygamous household doesn't mean it's an easy thing to do with your character.
She and Ben are five or six years apart (depending on writing continuity) according to the script. Men bringing home younger and younger wives is bound to cause problems with horny adolescent young men. That's why they get kicked out of the compounds, to take out the competition for the old farts. In a few years when Ben's out of college, he and Margene would be a much more appropriate couple in terms of age and temperament than Margene and Bill. You can't bring home the hot barely legal babysitter, marry her, and expect your teenage son to think of her as his mother. It's ludicrous. From what I understand, Margene's getting more and more independent. She's not the fatherless young girl who craved a father figure and a place to belong anymore and Bill running for office is pissing everyone off. My bet? Margene gets so angry with Bill, or Bill so angry with her, that she actively seduces Ben in a fit of anger. I could be wrong, of course, but it's sure as hell a way to drive a wedge between father and son when you're only thinking of immediate gratification in getting even and not about long term consequences to both herself and to Ben. Bill, whom I think is an ass, is going to get a well deserved smack between the eyes.

Maybe Margene raises you know who's hopes and then crushes them by her actions?

^^ Mmmm. Very interesting theory. My theory is this:

Bill running for office instantly puts Margene on the hot seat with her TV gig (how hasn't Barb or Nicky seen her on TV yet?) and when/if they are outed as polygamists... Margene loses her job, goes into hysterics and depression. Ben tries to cheer her up and it goes from there.

Hopefully the election doesn't draw out the entire season... I'd like to see things get shaken up partway and then deal with the fallout from there.

I should go find an episode synopsis and get up to speed.

S3 was better than I remembered... going to be reviewing it this week for sure!

After researching that claim-it was only one scene in a film festival movie nearly 7 years ago. Hardly a 'porn' star.
