Big Brother 24

I haven't even heard of it.

Really? It airs right after BB, advertised constantly during it. It’s a physical challenge show featuring faces from Survivor, Big Brother, Amazing Race and Love Island. Danny and Sarah from Survivor won by everyone rise quitting the final challenge. (Climbing a mountain while solving puzzles in the freezing rain)

It might air right after BB on CBS, but the show is simulcast here on a Canadian channel. I don't necessarily get the same nightly lineup of shows you get.

Of course it might just be that I tend to be laser-focused on specific shows and ignore the rest. It's been years since I just veg'd in front of the TV and watched whatever. Last night I had to make a decision about what to watch and what to record, since BB and the season premiere of The Handmaid's Tale were on at the same time.

Wow, Paramount had like 25 seasons of The Challenge and I found out it originally aired on MTV and instead of Survivor/Big Brother/Amazing Race/Love Island contestants, it had Real World/Road Rules contestants. And the show I've been watching, The Challenge: USA is a spinoff of that.

Not sure I'm interested in these other seasons at all because those shows are notorious for having lower quality individuals cast. But I'm giving it a chance.

This season though, if you get past the inherent luck in the format, was pretty cool. Tyson and Ben were there, and four members of the Cookout. It started out with 14 men and 14 women, they were randomly paired up every week. First they had a challenge, and there was a first place team and last place team. The last place team was one of the teams in the elimination challenge, and the first place team got to choose their opponent. And there was one male and one female winner.

The random pairing part is the unfair part. Like, Enzo from BB also made it to the final, but the final had a format where men and women were randomly paired up, and if one of them quits, they are both out. Enzo was paired up with Desi from Survivor, he quit, and she was automatically eliminated, which seemed super unfair.

There's going to be an international version of the show that Danny and Sarah qualified to represent USA in.

Okay, I may have vaguely heard of it. One of the shows I did watch now and then was Tough As Nails, hosted by Phil Keoghan.

But on the fluffier side of reality shows, apparently we not only get a season of Survivor, but also The Amazing Race. I call dibs on starting a thread, as I've already got the title picked out.

Oh, and I might check out this "Real Love Boat" show, since it's hosted by Jerry O'Connell. I don't care about reality romance shows, but I did used to watch The Love Boat when it was on in the '70s and '80s.

I tried to watch an episode of the MTV version of challenge, and yeah, the casting standards of Real World and Road Rules are a big problem.

Watching the Chenbot try to dance like a human was a bit painful to watch for the HoH competition.

I fully sympathize with Turner's constantly-confused expression as he frantically tried to remember wtf she was wearing and what she did while she was wearing it. Did you notice how he had to count on his fingers for one question to figure it out - and I think that's the one he got wrong, that put him behind the others?

Didn't she say that these were outfits they'd seen her wear? I don't remember any of them.

Turner makes it to final two, he wins it, no question. Monte vs. Taylor, Monte wins it because its Taylor and that is how this season has went.

Well, it turned out not how I wanted, but how I predicted. :sigh:

I guess Turner is now somehow committed to buying Jasmine a dozen muffins (or so I gather), and I want to know how in the ever-loving h-e-double hockey sticks Kyle ended up as a finalist for "America's Favorite"? The other two I get. But Kyle baffles me.

Kyle was very likeable even with how badly he messed up.

Speaking of Kyle, I went against my better judgement and went back to Fanforum to see what the posters there had to say about the finale, and things were still very toxic and hostile as far as he was concerned.

I've been hesitant to compare Big Brother to Survivor because, unlike apparently everyone else, I don't think they're actually all that similar, but the circumstances of Taylor's win and game did remind me of Denise Stapely from Survivor Philippines; her also winning the fan vote puts her in the company of Kim S. Wolfe, whom I believe was the first Survivor winner to also win a fan vote, as well.

With my first official season of Big Brother in the books, I enjoyed it enough to keep watching it as it airs, but don't know right now if I'll go back and watch any previous seasons.

@Timewalker Why the angry emoji? Who did you want to win other than Taylor?

What angry emoji? Since when is :sigh: angry? I'm disappointed.

I wanted Turner to win.

Monte screwed up by taking Taylor. How could he not have realized that her overall arc would impress the hell out of the jury, whereas his wouldn't? If he'd wanted to win, he should have taken Turner, as there were people on the jury who stated that they felt Turner should have owned his actions, but didn't (or at least not enough).

Taylor was my last choice out of the final 3, but also my 3rd choice out of the final 5 so can’t say it’s a bad result. Just not the one I wanted. After the first two weeks she did play an excellent game. The person who was the main target at the start managed to get completely below the radar for the rest of the game and that’s hard.

I didn’t watch the whole episode. I wasn’t home when it aired and then I just often skip the finale cause it’s usually so slow and uninteresting. What was the juror’s reasoning? From my perspective, Monte and Turner were the clear top players.

Regarding Kyle, I think that the fact two of the people be accused of a cookout were people who completely had his back makes it a little worse. Like “He’s not a racist but his thought process was racist at that moment”.

Turner won Part 1 of the final HOH competition. Monte won Part 2.
Monte beat Turner in Part 3.

Turner's speech was okay. Taylor's was spectacular, and I think it might have swayed one or two jury votes. But I think Monte had his mind made up that he thought he could beat Taylor because he thought the jury would reward his gameplay, plus he stated that the final thing he needed on his resume was to "make a strong move" by evicting Turner. So boom, Turner was gone. They didn't even show his photo turning grey, since Monte and Taylor were too busy hugging and kissing.

I think Turner was slightly pissed off about that, but he did end up giving Monte his vote (the only one he got).

I've been reading the Hamsterwatch site, from the first week onward. There's so much that happened that we weren't shown - some of the lighter things that would have been fun to see.

I guess now I understand why Julie ignored Nicole when they brought back the pre-jury people who were evicted. Holy crap, that woman is vile.

Did Daniel show any regret for the way he treated Taylor or did he double down on his assholery?

I haven't gotten the live feeds since BB2 and then I only watched it in like the first week. From what I saw there, it can get awful dirty. They spent hours trying to organize an elaborate drinking game and Dr Will went off on his tangent about women having three "Orifices of love".

Something I've always wondered about, being in the house with no privacy on national TV for three months. How do people take care of their, you know, urges that build up if they don't get satisfied every so often? Do they just do it and not worry about the fact they are on TV?

The live feeds aren't available in Canada, so I wouldn't know.

Daniel did eventually express regret. Whether or not it was sincere is another issue. Who knows? I wonder if Nicole ever expressed regret - if not, that could be why Julie ignored her and just let her sit there.

As for "urges" there is one camera-free zone, which is in the bathroom. They don't actually show the act of waste elimination, so I guess there's a tiny bit of privacy. Or there's under a blanket.
