Big Brother 17

Somebody had to start the thread and admit they like the show.

Houseguests have already moved in. Show starts next Wednesday.

From what I've been reading, the gimmick this year is a 'Special guest', probably former houseguests, comes into the house every week to enforce a new twist which may or may not be one from a previous season.

Also there is a transgender houseguest. Wanna take odds on whether she comes off as a normal person or a raging stereotype? If she comes off as a normal person, then kudos to Big Brother.

I'll jump in and say I like the show - sometimes. I've had a look at the houseguests and am so far unimpressed. But that's only a quick visual impression based on a photo and very short paragraph.

The show is tolerable as long as there isn't too much nastiness and nobody has a really irritating voice.

I tend to like following what's actually happening but hate the narrative the producers are trying to tell. And it's the only show that's really on in the summer.

I enjoy Big Brother more than other reality shows for its transparency--because of the live feeds, you're not obligated to buy into the producers' chosen narrative--but find the excessive twists in recent years annoying and the casts to be increasingly insular, often made up of a combination of people who were scouted, people from past seasons, and "superfans" who already know how to game the system.

Between the two North American editions, I prefer Big Brother Canada, even though it shares many of the same issues as its American counterpart.

I can't stand any of the women so far. Once again, CBS has managed to find the most annoying black woman possible and also the woman who decided she is going to fawn over the hottest boy in the house. Meg is like Nicole on uppers and Audrey's transgender-ness will get old fast as CBS rams that down our throat instead of letting us know the rest of her.

Have you been watching the feeds or did we watch an entirely different show last week? I like Davonne, and I think she has the potential to be the one to play the quiet manipulative game which is always the most fun to watch. I like that they put an openly transgender person on the show and the other women seem pretty neutral so far. I agree there's a risk of only talking about her transgender status but there's only been one episode so far.

It's true Big Brother gives you a little more transparency because of the feeds but also they tend to fill it with hot shallow twenty year olds who are dicks to each other all the time.

"Working for other people for minimum wage is not a good look".

Okay, so we have the douche established.

So Jason, you're not concerned that you are living in your parents' basement not making enough money to pay rent, you're concerned that this lifestyle is not fashionable.

Also that woman who says that her biggest obstacle is jealousy. They clearly saved all the lame people for the second wave. Also the nerd stereotype who is socially inept and lives with his parents.

I don't get the feeds, so I'll be having to rely on the show itself.

That guy who won the HoH tonight can go. ASAP. He is utterly repulsive. Meg can go as well, because her smile is creepy, like something out of an Archie comic.

I think they based the second HOH challenge on your avatar, Timewalker.:p
Considering how many years I've had this avatar and the farmer hasn't been drawn anywhere near the ship yet, I'd say the smiley farmer should win HoH. :p

There are other smileys, though, in which the smiley does get drawn up into the UFO quite quickly.

Hopefully this backdoor plan for Jace is successful. I can't stand that guy.

I'm glad the Amazing Race group was Jeff & Jackie. If it were Harley & Blair I would have given up on the season right there.

Yeah, he's revolting.

I'm curious to see when the poker player and the dealer are going to figure out the other's profession. Da'whats-'er-name claimed to be an elementary school teacher, but at some point people will realize that she probably isn't one.

Any idea when the twin twist starts?

I think the twin is Meg. She's expressed herself the least and I kind of see some subtle differences in the way she looks, but I could be imagining that. But I'm sure there's some website somewhere that spoils it. I think the identity will be revealed to the audience in Wednesday's show, I'm surprised it wasn't yesterday.

Jason has an annoying personality but at least he exhibited some modest intelligence in the game.

I'm not sure why they even put this Steve guy in the game. Besides coming off like a 1990s nerd stereotype, he's not the type A personality they usually like to put in the game. He seems to have no clue about the social aspect of the game and all he can do is recite BB truisms like 'The pawn always goes home' with no sense of context.

Davonne's voice is like nails on a chalkboard. She thinks she's got this great gameplay, but from what I've seen, I think she's going to stretch herself ridiculously thin and end up getting evicted because she can't keep all her promises. She's already Devin-ing with the parannoy.

Audrey might get to the jury, but sooner or later, she'll be evicted because of her transgender-ness. They'll think she's going to win Favourite Juror or something.

I've been watching the show and keeping up with the feeds. I actually like Da'Vonne so far, her diary rooms are funny. I'm also happy to report that Jason is nowhere near as annoying on the feeds as he was on the show. However, Jace is 20x more annoying on the feeds. Thankfully everyone else in the house seems to have noticed that as well.

Spoilers based on feeds and who the twin is presumed to be...

Audrey has gone off the rails. I think she will be evicted soon, not because of her transgender-ness, but because she is playing like the Devin of this season. She has gone mad with paranoia and is talking game with someone 24/7. Just watching her stresses me out. If anything, I think her being transgender will work in her favor for a week or two, because at least one HG has mentioned that people may be afraid to nominate her because they don't want to look like the bad buy bigot to America. I think Da'Vonne was like this in the first few days, but seems to have calmed down and isn't the focus anymore.

It is believed by internet sites that the one with the twin is Liz. You can find pictures of her with her identical twin Julia online. They are pretty similar but side by side you can definitely see differences. However, no one seems to have picked up on it so far.

He's the BB equivalent of Cochrane on Survivor - the geeky, nose-in-a-book sort that you'd never expect to have any social game or talent for winning competitions. But Cochrane actually did win, and it's not impossible that Steve could.

He hasn't annoyed me yet, so I have nothing against him.

It's true Cochrane's terrible first season was similar to how Steve is playing so far. But even in his first season Cochrane had a little more sense than to just regurgitate cliches.

But that's not a positive endorsement. Cochrane won on his second try when he played extremely well the entire game. On his first season he made the dumbest move of the season, followed whoever showed any kind of kindness to him and blew up the game for his entire tribe.

I see Davonne more as a Danielle than a Devin.

And so the first eviction has happened... and good riddance. I missed part of Wednesday's show (fell asleep about 15 minutes before the end). Did anything happen that matters?
