Definitely Pulaski! She was a real character whereas Crusher felt like a faceless cypher most of the time.

Pulaski had way more personality.
I voted Dr.Crusher. Its easy to just dismiss Dr. Crusher as not having as much personality as Pulaski but I think the mutual yet repressed attraction and close relationship between Dr. Crusher and Captain Picard added alot to the show that would have been lost if Dr. Pulaski was there the whole time instead of Dr. Crusher.

I went with Bev....not because of any great acting talent, but I somehow thought that eventually Picard/Beverly would had a sex scene. Unfortunately they seemed to write Picard as either 'sexless' or gender 'unaware'...but back in the day, I actually thought Gates McFadden was pretty hot...
So I had to compare in my mind: A love scene between Picard and Bev (with some nice shots of Bev...oh yeah) or, who knows, they have might have had a love scene between Picard and Pulaski and the thought of having to endure that possible sex scene is enough to make me throw up...
so...Bev for the possible but never fullfilled lust for seeing her and Picard "as one".

Pulaski. Every scene with Crusher is sapped of any energy and emotion. Gates McFadden is IMO so wooden and shows nothing in any of her performances. However, if any Crusher fans can point me to any of her best moments, I'll give them another look.
Diana Muldaur is a superior actress and has the poise, voice, and Trek history to keep me interested in her. Muldaur is one of my favorite TV actresses, especially during the late 60s-early 70s period. Love her.

Yeah...but who would you rather see naked? thats what my choice came down too, not acting ability. Thats why Patrick was there, to act...Bev was set up as a potential love interest. And thats why I liked Bev...Gates is sexier than Diana (though, in her prime, Diana was hot)
And if you dont think sex appeal dictates casting, I give you proof #2 and proof #3...Denise Crosby and Mirina Sirtis...

Yes, sex appeal does dictate casting, but they must have made an exception in McFadden's case--she radiates nada-- at least for me-- but if others like her, then go to it, boys!

to be honest, I am glad Diana didn't stay. She went on to a better gig on LA LAW. The writing for TNG had yet to prove to be anything other than light-weight fare in TNG's 1-2 season.
My favorite performance of Mudlaur's was as Steve Mcgarretts ex-lover in Hawaii Five-0. And let me state, pure and simple, she could act circles around any, and I mean ANY, Trek actress....she was that good IMO.

I liked Pulaski, and if she had stayed on I'd probably have voted for her.
Kate Pulaski over that Yeoman Janice Rand with a medical degree clone that is Beverly Crusher.

I think Crusher got shafted by the writers almost as badly as Geordi for most of Next Gen, but she was always my favourite character. I'd love to have seen at least one episode with both of them in it though, preferably ganging up on Picard.
