Better Call Saul, the TV series

Watching season 5 premiere.

Lalo pretty much called everything Fring did in BB season 4. He’s presented as basically MU Mike.

I can’t see any world where he survives and is not active in BB.

Better Call Saul is a show singularly obsessed with continuity to the last detail to the point that they designed two entire characters based on two random name drops in Breaking Bad. But is there a continuity issue with Kaylee’s age? Shouldn’t she be younger?

They also visibly made no effort to age down Hank and Steve and it stood out just by their older man postures. But it stands out the most for a girl who was 10 in BB and should be in kindergarten now.

^Lot of adults look pretty much the same between 35 and 45 especially bald/balding men who went bald before 35 (see Patrick Stewart). I have no issues with Hank and Steve's appearances.

The difference with him though was pretty noticeable, at least to me. Mike looks exactly the same in both series, but Hank looked, well, like his real life age difference.

Maybe I'm imagining things but it seemed to me like he was standing and moving like a person with back problems.

Shocking absolutely no one, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will indeed appear in this final season!

Plus, Rhea Seehorn and Giancarlo Esposito have directed episodes for the final season.

And in other news, Vince Gilligan says he's not working on a third series for the universe, at least not now.

Man, Aaron Paul is 42 years old. Jesse Pinkman is 28 at the start of Breaking Bad. That's going to be a stretch.

I wonder if Cranston will wear the same hilariously awful bald cap that he did in El Camino.

He could show up in the future segments.

I don't think that's likely. From my back-of-the-envelope math, we're pretty close to the point at which Walt and Jesse hook up with Saul. So they're going to have pull off some incredible age-defying makeup.

Yeah, considering how El Camino concluded, it makes no sense for Jesse to show up in the flash-forwards. Besides, I much prefer that being the conclusion of Jesse's story.

Although I agree that it's going to be a stretch for Paul to pull off young Jesse. He barely did it in El Camino with the conceit of him being tore to shit for a year of imprisonment and torture.

But I don't mind that it'll be a stretch. I'll just be happy to see Jesse and Walt again. I trust Vince and Peter to do it right.

If it’s pre-BB, Walter has hair. He’d only be bald if they have a “The Plan” style segment of showing us the other side of events we already saw.

Just rewatched the trailer, on the show page on AMC website. I think it was Nacho's place that we saw Mike searching.

I just finished rewatching season 5 and I'm processing it.

The change in Kim is the most interesting. She's a brilliant enough lawyer to make millions as one of the greats, and decides she's more interested in protecting the people who can't afford lawyers than the rich who can afford her talents. Talk about Jimmy being the monkey with the machine gun, he took the machine gun and gave it to a wolf.

Given our knowledge of Breaking Bad, we were primed to expect Kim to eventually morally reject Jimmy or to be a victim to his illegal behaviors. Season 5 shows us Kim is at heart just like Jimmy, only smarter and with more self control and discipline. And Jimmy unrepressed her.

There's also where we were left in the Gene timeline, the implication he is going to go murder the guy who recognized him.

I just did a rewatch in the past 24 hours...ish.

The problem with Gene killing the cabbie...is the guy he was with when the cabbie got him to say "Better Call Saul" at the mall. That guy might not be a cabbie. The guy would tell the cops if something happened to the cabbie... I don't know if Gene got to know who "was in the game" in Omaha in order to dispose of the body...no deserts...... I'm not sure the cornfields would work as well.

Hell, how did the cabbie know he worked at the mall. Just because his car was parked there doesn't mean he worked there. Not to mention he could be off that day, or one of the people who works away from the public like receiving or the offices, etc.

I've only watched the first episode so far (forgot we were getting two!) so I'll keep thoughts limited until I get to the second one.

I know we all say this every episode of every season but, my gods, this is one of the most beautiful shot shows ever. I can never get enough the scenery and the cinematography of this show (and Breaking Bad before it).

Poor Nacho is on the run and Mike has to fight tooth and nail to get Gus to support the guy. I don't know how long they're going to drag out that thread but it's going to be intense every step of the way.

I love how Kim is all in with messing with Howard. I've always loved Kim but somehow I find myself loving her even more with each episode.

I was bummed we didn't get our Gene flashforward...but we got instead was quite glorious nonetheless. I just wasn't sure what fell out of the truck and the camera slowly panned towards. Am I being oblivious/forgetful again?

Rest in peace, World's Best Lawyer travel mug.
