Better Call Saul, the TV series

So at this point, Lalo has to be nearing his fate. He’s nearing the point where if he does not die, the future gets unmade.

I think Kim survives Lalo but gets somehow fingered in the investigation of Howard’s death, and then Jimmy uses his sandpiper profit to buy the book and help Kim disappear.

(And I still think the reason Gene is so opposed to leaving Nebraska is the off chance of finding her).

The last two or three episodes of slow burn sure paid off with fireworks this week. Holy ..

That was sublime watching all the pieces come together. And yeah - then it went off perfectly. The moment that candle flickered again I knew Howard's fate was sealed.

There were parallels between Howard's final rebuke of Jimmy with Chuck's court denunciation in Chicanery - right before their respective ends.

God damn - two months?

Damn

Fring is going to suspect Lalo knows that he knows he's alive if nothing happens to him or his people that night.

At least I have Strange New Worlds and Obi-Wan Kenobi to get me through June and early July. I'll be in San Diego for a conference when the next episode airs. More to look forward about my trip to San Diego

I think there’s going to be a Wild West showdown between Lalo and Mike.

It would be the most fitting way to off Lalo because Lalo is basically characterized as “Mike if he didn’t care about innocent deaths”.

Jimmy also can’t learn Fring’s name.

Brilliant pay off but that ending was awful. I don't mean it was bad but jebus christ did a cold shiver run over me when that final scene happened. Surely this is what pushes Kim away. Terrible stuff happening (in an amazing episode).

To add, if Lalo dies, Jimmy/Saul cannot know or he wouldn't be worried about him when Walter and Jesse took him out to the desert....
I'm starting to think Lalo survives and we are going to see him face off with Gene. And that thought scares me.

I’m gonna say no. Lalo would have showed up in that attack on Fring’s chicken farm and Fring wouldn’t have told Héctor all Salamancas were dead, in Breaking Bad.

Holy shit!

I thought Nacho's death was a shock. I thought Nacho's death hurt. :(

A masterclass in misdirection. A lightweight heist storyline (and love how everything suddenly made sense) that morphs into something incredibly dark. Even more than Hank's death, Howard's is a complete kick in the guts With Hank, he was DEA, he was in the line of fire. Howard's just wrong place at the wrong time, and however you spin it, he was there because of Jimmy and Kim.

So, what is striking is this.

Nacho, dead, gunshot to the head
Howard, dead, gunshot to the head

Anyone want to bet Kim makes three headshots :scream: I mean I'd like to think this makes it even more likely that whatever happens to Kim, it isn't fatal, but who knows.

Of course maybe if there is a third headshot it's reserved for Lalo?

I can't imagine any reason Lalo could be alive, but fail to expose Fring, and also not intervene when his family are being killed off. This isn't the kind of show where comas are an available plot device. Lalo believes absolutely in "Familia es todo". No way he both lives and disappears.

I don't think Kim dies here, I think either she vacuums or she kills herself. The reason I lean toward vacuum is that the other candidate for that plot point was Nacho.

But, I think that when Howard disappears, and then Cliff finds out that on the day it all went down, Kim was a no-show on her lunch, he's going to start re-hearing everything Howard said.

I'm firmly on Team Vacuum for Kim at this point. Her dying, even by suicide, is too damn dark, even for this show. I can't see Vince and Peter going that way. I really, really, really, really, really, really, really hope they don't prove me wrong on that count.

I did notice they were both headshots but I didn't take the extra step on a third headshot. Again, I don't think it'll be Kim. It's got to be Lalo.

Question is who will be the trigger man?

Mike makes the most sense. Which is precisely why I don't think it'll be him.

Gus isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, especially in regards to the Salamancas. But have we ever seen him use a gun before? I honestly don't remember.

No way it's Saul.

I can't see it being Kim...but that would be one hell of a twist.

I don't see Juan Bolsa getting involved and anyone else is too periphery to matter.

Up to your post here, I was thinking on the terrible tragedy of Howard of simply disappearing and everyone thinks that was part of his meltdown, without knowing the full truth of his death.

But I think you might be onto something about Cliff putting the pieces together. Question is where would that lead to?

I always come back to the Saul we first met in Breaking Bad when predicting Kim's fate. Kim being vacuumed and disappeared from Saul's life seems a better fit than a dead Kim. Still heart breaking, but he can go on at least knowing she's still out there, somewhere. Would he cope with Kim's death by going full Saul Goodman? I want to say no.

Yes.It's Nebraska. They'd have to be hard-pressed not to want to leave Nebraska.

Good thing Blablover5 hasn't been in here in ages or she'd dislike this immensely.

Even though I found his death a shock, don't you think it was a little ridiculous? Lalo never cared about killing innocent people, but he always killed with a reason. Here it was enough just for him to wait 5 minutes outside the door for the other to leave. A death always brings some annoyance with it.

Well, you could look at it a couple of ways I guess.

Lalo was on the clock and came through the door unawares Kim and Jimmy had a guest - sorry guest.

It was a brutal but effective way of letting Kim and Jimmy know he means business. Would you dick Lalo around after he casually murdered someone in front of you?

Yup, that's precisely how I read the situation. He lost all patience and he wanted a quick and effective way to demonstrate to Saul and Kim that he needed answers now and no more bullshit.

Fair dos to Kim and Jimmy, they did try and get Howard to leave. Whether Lalo would have let him leave is another matter. I suspect Howard was doomed either way. Guessing once Lalo revealed the gun there was only one way this was ending.

I think Kim getting vacuumed is the most logical outcome now. There was no reason to highlight Vet-guy's black book and the vacuum business card otherwise. Yes you can talk about it being an Easter egg for Breaking Bad but we don't get a hint of Vacuum Guy until, what season 4? There's oodles of time for Saul to find out about the guy between now and S4 of BB.

I guess the real trouble is that if Kim is vacuumed, presumably Jimmy will have no idea where she'd wind up. Question is, did Gene end up in Nebraska by chance or was if intentional because Jimmy though there'd be a chance Kim was resettled there (there's no indication vacuum guy gives people a choice and even if he did, surely as Kim heralded from Nebraska her home state would be one of the last places he'd send her?
