That I didn't see in the book...anything we came up with would be conjecture.

Well...DID Marak want Berat found? Or did he want anything that went wrong on the station to be blamed on Berat? I'd say he was half-assing it. He thought he'd win either way. I mean, since Berat knows about Nor-class stations' reactors (and apparently a HELL of a lot of other stuff about those kinds of stations), you could pin the bombing on him easily. And there are ways to spin that story whether he's alive or dead.
Hmmmm... that's a good point. I kinda thought he was enraged that Berat had gotten through all his guards etc., and gotten onto the station, so his goal was to get him back and kill him. Especially since the station was too busy to look for him in the book, and Berat just went around fixing things... though you're right, they could have pinned a lot of things on him.
Marak just seemed like such a hot head that I figured he wanted Berat dead ASAP, and the station taken by force and everyone beaten up... creep.

I don't think Marak cared HOW he created chaos as long as he got the end result. Which was also why he wasn't paying attention to that one critical detail...the one that could've saved his butt.
