Best/Worst Picks

I voted DS9/Ent although that easily could have been DS9/Voy instead. Too close to call, really.

I voted DS9/Voy and could have easily gone DS9/Ent.

The only reason I went for Voy was because Ent began to redeem itself toward the end of its run. Voyager only got worse.

Honestly, the only two series that draw the most dislike across the board are Voyager and Enterprise.

TNG was so gray area that nobody hates it, but nobody fanatically loves it either.

TOS and DS9 both have dedicated, rabid fans. To me, it seems that with either series you either watch it and you absolutely love it, or you don't watch it and don't care either way.

what's interesting to me is that nobody yet thinks that DS9 was better than TOS or TNG, but more people than most think it was better than VOY or ENT. TOS and TNG seem to be on par in terms of perception, and ENT and VOY ditto. DS9, as is its wont, seems to be the wild card. yes, I know, pretty unscientific conclusions, but interesting to me.

Yep--this could potentially be an interesting poll. If one's your favorite, which didn't you like? But we need more votes--we need some folks that stay in their own sections to come vote--don't know what to do about that. I got dinged (rightfully so) for posting the same invite in each thread. Sorry mods! How can we get some Voyager fans to come and vote?

I think you're misreading the poll.

The options are both polar; Loved and Hated. Who's to say that you need to hate TNG or TOS to rank DS9 above it? Every person that voted for DS9/Anything obviously thinks it's better than TOS or TNG.

yes, but when you think about it, it's the polarity that's interesting. nobody's voted YET for the DS9/TOS or the DS9/TNG categories. that is what interests me so I'm waiting for that to happen. (and now watch... someone'll do that just to throw me off)

/TNG and /TOS aren't getting many votes period.

You're gonna have a hard time making a point standing on these legs. ;)

DS9/ENT seems an easy choice, but the poll could have had 25 choices, putting best to worst in order for each choice. Or has that already been done (maybe several times)?

Opps, sorry. That doesn't work as a poll. People could just list them in order as posts, which has been done.

It's only an easy choice if you assume that this board is populated by DS9 fans that hate Voyager. Maybe that's true--I'm new here. It's not true really, the Voyager and Enterprise sections seem very active. But it does seem true that the "that's an easy choice crowd, DS9 rules" crowd may have chased some away from the general Trek discussion--though that seems sad.

I actually thought of another poll--but it wouldn't work if everyone won't participate. Perhaps Voyager and Enterprise fans primarily like their one and only favorite and aren't interested in "general Trek discussion." I thought of a poll about "have you watched 1, 2, 3, 4, or all 5 Treks all the way through"? As I said--I don't think that it would work if tons of forum members stay away from this section.

And wouldn't a poll that listed Best to Worst in Order need 5 Treks x 4 other Treks x 4 possible slots for each and equal like--over 100 not 25?

"An easy choice..." and "Almost every poll here indicates..." only means that like-minded folks have gathered here, not they are right because they are the majority here. Perhaps polls that ask for questions that are bigger than one or two series can't work--in other words, there can be kick ass polls for each series in their own section, but polls about Trek as a whole don't work if fans of only 2 or 3 of the series congregate in one section.

Of course you're assuming that people who post in the ENT forum only like Enterprise and don't post in any of the other forums. Which they don't, and do respectively.

Liking Enterprise and saying it's the worst Star Trek aren't mutually exclusive concepts. There's such a thing as 'worst of a good bunch'.

These kind of polls always end the same way. DS9/TOS are most popular, ENT/VOY the least. It's not just here. Near enough every poll I can remember along these lines, whether it be on TrekBBS or elsewhere always come to the same conclusion.

I'm slightly unsure why you'd want to start such a poll if you're weren't prepared for the potential results.

How am I supposed to know these things? I'm doing research.

I'm not "assuming," I'm theorizing--I'm creating a hypothesis. Perhaps the trends you describe are true of real Trekkies who like all the series, and fans who like only one or two wouldn't describe themselves as Trekkies. That seems like a reasonable hypothesis.
